Need to pick prasidh he is tall+ has pace would be handful on aussie pitches
This is massively skewed by his first tour where he was terrible. Anyone who's actually watched or faced him since knows how good he is, including the Aus bats.Is it really a massive blow?
Shami is 34 and hasn't played a Test in 16 months. His record in Australia is only 31 wkts @ 32.16 as well so would the Aussie bats really care too much?
It is. Shami is a massive upgrade on both Siraj and Akashdeep. The last time he played a series in Aus he took 16 wkts @ 26.19 there. Facing Bumrah and Shami would be a much more scary proposition for the Aussie batters instead of Bumrah/Siraj or Bumrah/Akashdeep.Is it really a massive blow?

Guy is mentally weak . I don’t think mentally fragile cricketers do well in Aus . I fear for him against Marsh and Head .Need to pick prasidh he is tall+ has pace would be handful on aussie pitches
I would prefer Dayal for the left handed variety and would also create some rough for Ashwin to work withNeed to pick prasidh he is tall+ has pace would be handful on aussie pitches
Ok, but Shami hasn't played a Test or FC match in 16 months so how does anyone know how good he'll still be coming back at 34 after such a long lay-off (and now it'll be longer as injured again)It is. Although I don’t like Mukesh at all but there’s a big difference between him and Vinay Kunar.Oh no, Mukesh Kumar for Australia tour? Didn't we learn our lessons when Vinay Kumar played at Perth?
Besides, it's been a really long time since Shami has played tests. Not sure he will be the same bowler even after he becomes fit.
Yeah we don't know that, but I'll still back him over our other optionsOk, but Shami hasn't played a Test or FC match in 16 months so how does anyone know how good he'll still be coming back at 34 after such a long lay-off (and now it'll be longer as injured again)
His record is average bcoz of that series in 2014 on flatrons, othewise he had been good.Is it really a massive blow?

Prepare turners and let Ashwin Jadeja do the rest!Shami's absence means India are presented with a conundrum. They have to win against NZ with WTC in mind but also ensure Bumrah is not run aground before BGT. Maybe consider debuting both H Rana and Dayal against NZ.
Because he's been a proven quality bowler over a sample size of 10 years and had an unreal WC where he bowled as well as he ever has.Again I can't understand the oh no, we've lost Shami as he's been lost a long time hasn't he?
He has not played a Test in 16 months and since Jan 2022 he has 9 Tests for 26 wkts @ 33.19. His best match figures for these last 3 years has been 4/70
Shami is a major miss for India only in SENA conditions, as in the SC we have our great spinners to cover for him and the other teams haven't been as strong recently. He needs a regular run in the test squad without injuries and he could deliver once again imo, as evidenced the ODI wc where he was in perfect rhythm. The major issue with losing Shami is our bench strength, which again isn't really tested unless it's a SENA series of which he has only missed the SA one (which had the most bowling friendly pitches in recent memory). Hence, it wasn't a major issue uptil now, but the upcoming 5 match BGT will highlight this issue much much more.Again I can't understand the oh no, we've lost Shami as he's been lost a long time hasn't he?

Ummm, last BGT in Aus Shami broke down in first innings he bowled. Bench strength seemed to be good enough to do alright without himThe major issue with losing Shami is our bench strength, which again isn't really tested unless it's a SENA series of which he has only missed the SA one (which had the most bowling friendly pitches in recent memory). The major reason we rate highly is because him , Bumrah and Ishant Sharma are the only 3 fast bowlers who have won us matches . So, now we will have to rely on bench strength rather than proven match winner .Ummm, last BGT Shami broke down in first innings he bowled.
