Ravichandran Ashwin retires from international cricket

I think that last WTC final where he was made to sit on the bench by Rohit Sharma and the management team probably opened his eyes to retirement. Great bowler, all left handers can now breathe a sigh of relief!.

I'm really shocked. Why is he retiring in the middle of a key series?

Anyways all the best for the great Indian spinner in retirement but I was hoping he play in Sydney.

Actually he has a better record against right handers iirc.

Whatever it takes!!!
Ash - ATG cricketer, bowler and spinner.

Greatest Indian spinner, 3rd greatest post war spinner and 4th greatest spinner EVER.

And all this even before you consider his batting. Amazing ATG career. Thanks for everything and have a great innings outside of international cricket, Ash. Game will be poorer without you

Bottle job doing it mid series will no doubt be the Aussie reaction.

Seriously though, when you know the time is up its better to go not hang around stinking the place out like Southee and Ponting did.

Great career, an amazing bowler at home, probably the best spin partnership I've seen with Jadeja, happy retirement champ.

Is there a way to find out what he averages to RHB's compared to LHB's ?
Not even close.

I’ll be honest though, I don’t know exactly how accurate/how this is calculated. Since obvs the averages don’t add up.

I’m assuming that like averages against specific batsmen it only takes into account the score they were dismissed on, if the stat is also available for older players. Or it could be excluding no balls and wides etc.

Someone could go through his matches and calculate the actual score themselves ofc. But that’s a lotta effort.

My favourite memory of him. I don't think I've ever seen him look happier or jump higher. The man could not give a solitary **** about the rest of the team, opposition, crowd, umpires or even the safety of his own body in that moment. He was now the kid from PSBB who just found out he topped the National Mathematics Olympiad. He briefly let his tremendous mind break character so he could ascend to nerd heaven for a few seconds.

We still have two tests where he could be needed in the MCG and SCG

Why the **** has he retired. Hasn't been bowling all that well, sure, but mid-series?

What a bizarre and sad end to a legend.
Jadeja is simply better for this series.

equivalent bowler, better batter.

I didn't really fancy him or his bowling for like half of his career, but I eventually became a fan when he entered his chad era of mankading and **** talking to media. He improved a lot in the latter part of his career imo but somehow always found himself dropped overseas because our batting was terrible.

Favourite moment was definitely when he told the pitch whingers it wasn't that hard to bat on and then scored a hundred on it the next day to prove a point. WAG.
