I should have rephrased it.

I can understand why people don't recognise McCabe, but I can't understand why people of his era didn't say just how good he was.

I swear I must have repeated this at least 10 times on CW, but Bradman once said, "Stan, if I could play an innings like that, then I'd be a very proud man".

Suddenly? I am the only one so far that has voted for him and I voted for him last round too, and I think even the round before that.

Oops:mellow: . I was getting this poll confused with the one where Gillian Crisp was voted a better vocalist than Cliff Richard.

That innings was class, though he wasn't. Also, Bradman wasn't God, and his all time side makes me want to scratch my head to be honest. Benaud's XI is much better.

Bradman must have seen the game in a very different way to us mortals, who knows what reasons he had behind picking that team.

On the point about the innings being class; You can play a class innings and that makes you a class batsman in my eyes, average players can't and don't play class innings.

I think you have to be consistent to have true class. VVS Laxman plays some of the classiest innings ever, and so did Mark Waugh but their inconsistency puts them out of the true class categories.

Aussie bias. Nothing wrong with it, most people have a bias towards their country, including me. Doesn't mean its the best side though.

Barry Richards - South Africa
Arthur Morris - Australia
Don Bradman - Australia
Sachin Tendulkar - India
Gary Sobers - West Indies
Don Tallon - Australia
Ray Lindwall - Australia
Dennis Lillee - Australia
Alec Bedser - England
Bill O'Reilly - Australia
Clarrie Grimmett - Australia

They are still class batsmen, but just won't be considered all time greats, even though they could've been.
Well, we are using different definitions of class then. IMO class is not playing elegant cover drives (even Monty did that), its being able to play that cover drive often and consistently.

The ones that have been highlighted, for me are players that are worthy of the team, and they have some right to be there. That's not saying I'd have them anywhere near my All Time XI, just it's understandable why they're there.

No offense to Morris, but ahead of Hobbs? No one from the WI pace battery? Barry Richards I wouldn't have in there because of lack of Test matches but I can understand why people rate him so high (I do as well). But at least two clearly better openers than Morris, if not more (Hutton, Hobbs, Gavaskar).

I realize what you said, but you can understand why Morris was ahead of Hobbs, Hutton, Gavaskar, etc? If you can, well thats surprising and your logic is different from mine.

Oh no, I rate Hobbs and Hutton to be the best openers ever, and I don't believe Bradman's team to be the best ever by a long stretch, but it's not as far out as it may seem at first.

I don't care how slowly the runs are scored, he scored more than Hayden.
Um, maybe because he played in 20 more test matches? Thats like saying SRT has scored more total runs than Bradman, so therefore it means something.

After the same number of tests as Hayden, he had scored 6441 runs, compared to Hayden's 7414. Hayden has scored more with a better average, and a better strike rate with more centuries.

More centuries in 86 than Boycs had in 108 BTW.
