yeah but the original post was talking about all the test series, no mention of the one dayers

Fair enough, I wasn't sure, this thread was 'dug up' so I wasn't going to search through.

How do you guys feel Ricky Ponting and his men will go in the test series this year viz v Sl (away) v ZIM (away assuming it occurs), v SL (home) , v IND (away) and v Pak (home).

Do you think he'll win all of them ?
Seriously, who would have done?
Has there ever been a time (except June-October 2003) where we've not thought "oooohhhh, Australia have got some tough tasks coming-up - can't possibly win the lot" ... yet they keep doing so.
No-one could possibly have realistically thought they'd win all the series listed above; Andrew Miller's piece here (right at the end - "Australia have the truly gruelling itinerary") is a more recent example of "they can't possibly go through it all smoothly" - yet they keep on and on and on doing so.
Anyone seriously betting against them winning in New Zealand, England and against whoever they're playing in 2005\06? I'm certainly not.

Why not?

He played one game, and they lost that one.
i doubt it though. ponting might no be the best of captains, but hes far better than gilchrist. the main reason they lost was because they had hauritz.

The thing is, had Ponting played, would Clarke?

With Ponting's record over there, would he have scored the runs Clarke did?

Either way he didn't win in India.

possibly not. IMO they were better off not having ponting the batsman in the side.

Do you know what a series is? its multiple test matches, because ponting only played in one he didnt play in a series, thus making it impossible for him to lose a series

Ponting's Australian side (as opposed to Steve Waugh's Australian side) still won all 5 series. I don't think the question was so much about him as an individual as whether or not Australia could conquer the two remaining places they had not managed in the last decade after losing Waugh.

Personally I look at Clarke and he looks every bit as bad against the turning ball as Ponting - if Clarke could score runs in India, I'm pretty sure Ponting could.

LOL. Watch some innings before you make such rash statements. Clarke is a very good player of spin, however he is shocking against pace. The only problem Clarke has against spin is trying to be too aggresive all the time.

Clarke is good againt spin with bounce. If the ball keeps low, he struggles.
