Ponting won't let it rest.

Which boot is that? I don't know of any other international coach who makes a habit of provoking the oppositon captain on the field of play.
Ponting gave as good as he got in that exchange, and carried on where the cameras aren't allowed too by all accounts (fair dos).

He was fined for his rant at the umpires, not his row with Dunc.

It defies belief that Ponting is still going on about it, and risking a suspension in the process. Australia can't afford the distraction/risk that Ponting will be brought back before the Match Referee - and he could have been too.

Anyway, more generally, I can't believe how sensitive the bloke is. I mean, Fletcher was out of line by waving and grinning at him from the balcony, but as any adult should know, when someone tries to antagonise you, the best response is no response. As a captain, especially away on tour, you need to be a calming, stabilising influence. All Ponting has done in the last couple of days is create chaos - both in his actions during the Test, and after it.

Does anybody really believe that? The real problem with what Ponting did is he characterised himself as a whiner. If he'd jumped into the stands boots and all with bat raised, a la Inzy, at least Fletcher wouldn't have said boo to him ever again, and he would have got a long vacation afterwards, in which time somebody else could have handled the pressure (and the toss).

Incidentally I wonder whether Ricky's stance applies to the 12th man going out to the middle to give the number 11 batting tips under the pretence of swapping his gloves?

There isn't a grade cricket side in the world who doesn't do that.

What about playing a 12th man when one of his team-mates was out till all hours on the beer in the last Ashes series down under?

I heard on the news this morning that the ICC is going to police England from now on...

Well that has to be some welcome and "fair" news.

I guess it's only a problem when Australia aren't doing so well then...

And since the umpires have never had a problem with it, why shouldn't it continue?

Especially since I defy anyone to suggest 8 minutes is any length of time to do all the things that are aleeged...

talk to the ICC Marc. perhaps now that they've taken a notice on it and realise that England may be pushing it a bit far, they might have a more than valid answer.

Wait a second... I don't understand where your reference came from.

A 12th man in that case probably isn't appropriate, but the subsequent movement of that player down the batting order, or the fact that he's unable to bowl for that day and the following day (AFAIK) means that there are consequences to those actions.

A bit pointless seeing as England aren't doing anything wrong. What do you think's going to happen - the match referee following the players into the toilet?

I forgot about that one, although I'm quickly losing count of all the misdemeanours those holier than thou Aussies have committed.

Yep and there's another rule which makes no danm sense. I say, let the 12th man come out with advice without resorting to the stupid pretense of 'new batting gloves' and let the umpires determine whether it's happening too many times and give them the ability to police it and say 'enough is enough' if that's the case.

I dunno. The ICC must view something as being wrong otherwise they wouldn't act on it.
