Am I missing something? How will they help him win any more than other people?
Because they're his crack defence team.

(I assume that means they were on crack when they agreed to defend him)

Well what why would a trial be needed if he was indicating that he was going to choose leaving the CW Cricket system.
Why was Ed Giddins tried and convicted when he'd already announced his retirement?

Out of interest, how many other Cricket Boards or even International Sporting Federations ever use judge/jury trials to decide anything pertaining to sporting matters?

I'd assume all players that are banned for one reason or another are put on trial, including Hanse and Warne.

EDIT: Although I'm not sure it would be done by a regular judge/jury but more so some kind of board member or governing sports group would decide, however they would still decide via a fair trial. You have to keep in mind that 'fair' doesn't mean 'has a 50% chance of winning' - it can be a formality even when someone admits to their crime before the trial goes ahead.

You'd rather the CWBCC (which has been accused of conspiracy and the like) judge the matter instead of impartial observers taking the facts of boths sides into account? Rhetorical no doubt.

And the point of a trial then when he said he was leaving...?
We could have officially banned him forever when found guilty, preventing the many out-of-retirements...

The crime still existed - and how many times does it have to be pointed to the precedences in modern sport?
