Yes, he did. He was destructive - but so is everyone else in that line up.
Fair enough tiger - each to his own. My personal choice if I needed one of them to destroy an attack would always be Bradman.

Backing ChappellG over Tendulkar? Controversial.

Actually, completely wrong. I'd be interested to know why? Personally, having BCL and not Tendy would be like the biggest WTF moment ever. I'm going to pick both of course.

As a complete side note, because everyone seems to rate that craptastic bowler Lillee higher than I do, I got my hands on about 40 hours of Lillee footage.

His good games, and his crappy games. I'll go through it tonight, tomorrow and saturday. I'll post my final verdict on Sunday. In the highly unlikely event that I am wrong, you'll be able to rejoice as finally your opinion will agree with mine and thus you won't look like fools.

Would you ever rate him higher than McGrath, in any circumstances?
Sure, why not? GM-OLAS notwithstanding, there is no reason why, if he was truly better, that I wouldn't rate him higher. DL-OLAS coming up? Doubtful, but you never know.

After McGrath it would likely be MM-OLAS though ;). But like I said, I really am going to go in with an open mind and rewatch all that Lillee footage and I'll decide myself.

Is that the longest post in CW history?

Tip, why don't you edit the post to put the player & their stats on one line :)

Yea, I mean no one is arguing that Bradman wasn't the best, but that doesn't mean he would come out ahead in every possible criteria imaginable (though he does in most anyway).

Fair enough mate - I knew Braddles' S/R wouldn't be the highest, I reckon I'd just still always go for him to cause all round fast-scoring destruction if I had the choice of anyone.

Fascinating list though - I never would have thought Langer would have a Test S/R higher than Walcott, Sobers, Slater, Stackpole and many other noted "dashers".

Just to do something a little different this time, I though I'd keep track of who has the most correct votes on the team selections.

Results so far:

Openers: 22 people have so far selected Gavasker & Hutton

# 3: 20 people have so far selected Gavaskar, Hutton & Richards

WK: the following 10 people have so far selected Gavaskar, Hutton, Richards & Gilchrist:

1. Adharcic
2. Aussie Tragic
3. Bagapath
4. Blinkatesh
5. Fusion
6. Jamee 999
7. Matt 79
8. Oz Fan
9. Samuel Vimes
10. Perm

Btw, the following 6 can be added if they vote Gilchrist:

11. Anil
12. Chaminda 00
13. Marc7178
14. Shankar
15. Slifer
16. The Sean

Or any new person can be added if they post all 4 players as all Polls are still open :)

Interesting. Just a clarification on my vote: I didn't vote against Richards, and was going to vote for him at #5, not #3.

It would be Hutton, Gavaskar, Ponting, Tendulkar, Richards, Sobers, Gilchrist as the batting lineup.

Well I'm sure you'll be in the final of "Champion Selectors" as you already have 3 of the 4 votes.....btw, if you'd have listened to me in the 1966-85 thread, you would have realised that Richards was best known as a # 3 (and the best in the World at the time), and therefor you would have had a 100 % record as well :)

Oh he was a great #3, and for #3 alone he is ahead of Ponting. But I voted for Ponting at #3 as I wanted Richards to get the #5 spot, which IMO he would be ideal in considering the top order that this side would have. Richards was a better player than Ponting is, IMO, and therefore he could take the change in role a little better than Ponting probably can.

Richards would be a better #3 than ponting, but he'd be even better #5.
