I have to say that Langer looks to have been criminally under-used in ODIs. He seems to have been very unfairly tagged as "test specialist" despite scoring his runs at a pretty decent lick.

Michael Bevan was underplayed (in ODI's atleast) given his season with Tasmania which followed his axing from the national side. I guess that was more of a compulsory 'retirement' though.
People always pull out the Bevan can't play short pitched bowling chestnut but that was Ambrose, Donald, Walsh, Waqar, Wasim etc. who Hayden, Langer, Martyn also failed against. After a long hiatus those three got the chance to redeem themselves in a weaker era of fast bowling. You have to wonder what if for Bevan. If he was that useless against the short stuff I really doubt he would have made 1000's of runs at an average of nearly 60 in Australian Domestic cricket.

There are some things which I know are like bitter pills. But my friend you know AUSTRALIA ,How come they are numba 1 . You know what , If Bevan was in Pakistan then he would have been playing .This is the thing which seperates Pakistan and Australia . Pakistan though always had (recent eras) better talent than Aussies but ranking wise "No way near" . Simple thing is Bevan was sliding down and , he was cut down . Well done Australian selectors. Pakistanis go by heart and TBH If I am a selector of the Indian team I will definately pick up Tendulkar but may be Aussies wont do that .

Definitely. And he's hardly underperformed in the times he's had a run. 8 games, average of 32 at an SR of 88.88.

Problem with Langer is that he was an opener, who was he going to dismantle? M Waugh, Gilchrist and Hayden...

He never opened for Australia though, in those one dayers he did play in. He kept in four of them, and batted (or was listed to bat) in positions 7, 5, 7, 4, 4, 6, 7 and 5.

So?

I repeat... Langer was an opener or top order batsman. He was never going to have long success down the order, he was a victim of Australia's success.

He's not a world beater in ING cup either.

I do not think that anyone can beat me this time
Richard Snell (South Africa) (If I am not making a spelling mistake hehe)
One of the finest and the fastest bowlers I have ever witnessed was called for a few one dayers , Mayn the guy had class . He had some true pace !!

Problem is he lost his inswinger which was his main weapon, had a terrible season with somerset, and oddly for a swing bowler he kept bowling too short.
