Voted for peak Botham because he is the only one:
  1. To pick a fiver and score a century 5 times; no one has done it more than twice
  2. To score 10+ centuries and take 10+ fivers over his career
  3. To attain 800+ ICC rating points as both batsman and bowler
The first point is a massive clincher for me. And he did during his peak, 4 times, more than anyone has done throughout their career length.

Really dude?
I don't rate the old fashioned spinners (O'Reilly was decent I guess), the same way no one rates the old fashioned pace bowlers. They had significant advantages, and much less challenges to overcome than any from more modern eras like Ashwin.

Came out of no where, not related and overly way hyperbolic.

Was this concurrently?
Nah... If he didat that time he would have an all rounder rating of over 640, potentially surpassing sober's 669 or even exceeding 700 ( considering that his highest bowling rating was 911 and batting rating of over 800)

Still a great record though.

Botham's peak all-rounder feats are overrated then, I take to be your position?

It doesn't logically square that Botham is some uber all-rounder and bowler because he achieved something, and the next closest to achieve that, far closer than anyone else, actually isn't all that good of an all-rounder or bowler.

I personally take a bit of column a and column b . The feat in question is a bit overrated ( says more about stamina over the course of a given match more than anything, although that in itself is impressive ), but also that Ashwin is underrated as an all-rounder and bowler.

Ashwin has Test batting credentials at least as good as Hadlee's, who no one doubts is a great allrounder, and is by far the best quality spin bowler in history with the batting quality required to make the all-rounder claim. But he's still very underestimated on that front.

Correction: Ashwin has now done this 4 times.
Have seen this century/5 fer point raised a bunch of times by Botham fans.

I'm not talking about you, but there do seem to be a number of people who really rate Botham and don't think too highly Ashwin.

I wonder if we are going to get back pedalling on how meaningful a stat this is. Or on how good Ashwin is. Both sound like fun.

Edit: just saw that you started a thread for this. Haha. Nice
