Pakistan will always be Pakistan

Whatever it takes!!!
I read a report in the Deccan Chronicle today about some problems within the Pakistani camp. Apparently, when Younis Khan told AFridi that he was opening in this test, he only answered "yes" halfheartedly. And then, when the Windies were bowled out in the first day, Afridi came in and asked Yasir Hameed to pad up. Maybe he felt that with only 4 overs to go, Hameed opening was better. But when Younis learned of this, he was peeved and apparently had strong words with Afridi and asked him to pad up and open. Afridi did so. But after stumps, he came in and complained to Inzy about Younis and Inzy was, for some reason, angry at Younis too. AFridi apparently pulled Younis off the shower to have words with him and soon Inzy joined him. Younis was apparently upset that Inzy was supporting Afridi, who was actually misbehaving by not listening to the captain's instructions. Younis apparently even told INzy that he knew that Inzy was the captain but since Younis was the captain for this match, he was going to do things his way and there was nothing Inzy could do about it. Apparently, it had a big impact on the other players and may have resulted in the pathetic batting display that followed.

who's the third? surely you're not referring to Malik, he's hardly established himself as being a top batsmen ahead of Kamal or Hameed!

hameed? he is barely in the team.. if youhana and inzi were playing, hameed would not be.. very talented player but is definately not one of the best on the team...definatly has the potential.

Kamal just secured his place in the team very recently, and hasn't been around for long enough to warrant selection above malik.

If they were picking the batsman for the team, they would do so in the following order

1)inzi
2)youhana
3)younis khan
4)shoaib malik
5, 6)kamal and butt

this is test matches btw.

there probably isn't a huge gulf between malik and kamal, but certainly is between him and hameed

Sorry, WTF?
Asim Kamal who has performed pretty much every time he's been called upon, and has been treated as harshly as anyone has ever been treated - including Harold Bird who was dropped after his career-best score - doesn't warrant selection ahead of Shoaib Malik who doesn't even average anywhere near 30 in First-Class-cricket?

And incidentally it'd be something like:
1) Inzamam
2) Asim Kamal
3) Younis Khan
4) Youhana
5) No-one else has looked remotely close to Test-class since Saeed Anwar retired

It's not at all surprising, as you say, and while I don't really think it would have made too much impact on this match it's quite possibly the start of the next slippery-slope.

reminds me of the tale of good old mark ramprakash, poor lad, never got the recognition he deserved.

Well... he didn't deserve it in his first 6 years of Test-cricket when he was averaging 16.
He did, though, deserve more credit than he got for his last 4 years, when he averaged 37 when batting in the position other than one totally dissuited to him.

yes i believe he's been harshly treated. and has performed whenever called upon, but the pakistani selectors view shoaib malik as a more important cog in the pakistani batting, than kamal.

FYI, shoaib malik began his career as a bowler, who could bat a bit. Now he is an excellent all rounder. Looking at career stats will show less favourable stats to him, but if you look at his stats for the past 2 years, you will see what i'm talking about

you obviously know nothing about pakistani cricket if you think that's how the selectors think.

It may be how you think, but the selectors think very differently to you. There is no way in hell that they think kamal a better batsman than yousuf youhana.

and yes, i realise malik hasn't done much at test level, but he is still imo in their top 4 batsman

Mat Runs HS BatAv 100 50 W BB BowlAv 5w Ct St

unfiltered 8 372 59 37.20 0 2 8 4/42 52.12 0 4 0
filtered 5 338 59 48.28 0 2 6 4/42 51.50 0 3 0

so his last 5 tests, he averages 48.28, which is pretty impressive.

as i said, he's rapidly improviing

Yet more trouble in the Pakistan camp(LOL)

This reporter has now learned of further frictions in the Pakistan squad.

At the team dinner last night, it appears that Bazid Khan was seated next to Inzamam, and was not very happy when he was lectured to. Inzamam told Bazid that his style was very lazy, that he favoured the leg side too much, that his footwork was inadequate, amd that he played the ball too late.

Bazid replied that he had modelled all these methods on Inzamam's batting. This uspet Inzaman, and he asked if Bazid was trying to take away his position in the team. Bazid replied that he was only trying to copy Inzamam's method for himself. Observers said that at this point Inzaman got very angry and took this as an attempt to steal his technique without his knowledge.

As the two men were now eye ball to eye ball, coach Bob Woolmer had to step in. He reminded Bazid to stay in his place, and personally pledged to Inzamam that he would make Bazid study Mohammad Hafeez's batting technique instead. This had the effect of calming Inzamam for a while.

However, observers said, things only remained calm till the meal arrived - which was a large pizza with extra toppings. When Bazid helped himself to a larger than usual slice, Inzamam again lost his cool, and tried to grab the piece instead. Bazid, who had been fairly calm thougout the earlier altercation, now said that he did not care what Inzamam thought, and as a show of force picked up the the whole pizza tray and locked his jaw on it.

Observers say Inzamam completely lost his calm at this point, and made fitful grabs for pieces of pizza which he attemped to gobble down as quicky as possible. However, sources say he could not match Bazid in the consumption game as Bazid's jaw does not give easily especially when it comes to fighting over pizza.

At this point the highly paid English coach Bob Woolmer again had to intervene. He suggested to Inzamam that it would be better that he returned to his room and relax in the bath while listening to "Say you, say me" by Lionel Richie. Inzamam thought about it for a while and then replied that he had always wanted to improve his English by listening to such songs. "Say you Bob I go upstair. Say I Inzamam ul Haque, I go upstair, have bath, improve English."

Once Inzamam was gone, Woolmer ordered ordered Bazid off the table in more advanced English, and told him to stay in his room till called for. Once Bazid was gone, to the amazement of on-lookers, the highly paid English coach of the Pakistan team immidiately attacked the remaining bits of remaining pizza with an eagerness that ashamed onlookers.

Once Woolmer realised that he was being watched, he grabbed some pieces of the pizza of the floor, opened his laptop and stuck them between its keyboard and screen. He then announced that he was returning to his room to study his laptop, but observers were able to see him grabbing bits of pizza from the laptop en route to the lift.

This incident has left a nasty mess in its wake - it is reported that there were bits of pizza and cheese everywhere.

The Pakistan manager, Salim Altaf, has said that he has taken a very dim view of such things, and said that after a proper investigation, he may order the pizzas himself, or alternatively, ban their consumption altogether.

The news has learned that Salim Altaf's threats have not gown down well with the Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, who is already serving a one match ban. He has threated to fly home, and observers say he was last seen in the hotel lobby asking which airlines serve fresh pizza on long distance flights.

Will Inzamam come with vengeance in the second test? Pakistan was similarily thrashed by India last April and then came back strongly.
