If there is that much in it for the spinners I'm.sure Elgar will have a bowl. So far it looks like the kind of pitch there hasn't been enough of in saf where the batsmen can make merry.

He has looked good which is encouraging.

Aaaah that pull shot. He did one in 50-over comp last season off a seamer that made me sit up and take notice.
The best thing about that 6 is that he went for it trusted his ability; even though he has just walked in on his first test. Easy to have just let it go and not give it the treatment it deserved.

If you looking at bowling Elgar/Markram as you spinner you should not have had Maharaj sitting on the bench.

Love that Zubayr is using the local Cape Town bat manufacturer DP.

JP and Vern also started out with them but it didn't last long.

There's just so few occasions where leaving out your spinner is the best thing to do
I think leaving out the spinners by both Pak and SA was expectation of Wanderers rather than looking at what is actually in front of you. Poor decision making.

Definitely. He is a free-flowing scorer domestically so its good to see him back himself at this level.

Yes. Maharaj would be missed if Pakistan bat reasonably well and the quicks have to bowl for long periods. .
I agree but it isn't exactly a spinners paradise so whilst I would have played Kesh... I don't think he would necassarily be the match winner.

Otis in that article is basically laying out his cards saying pace barage is our strength we will make the most of it.

If this was against Eng or Aus, Maharaj would have played.

Yeah if it flattens into a road, then a 4-man pace attack could be heavily overworked. We'll see anyway, with Pakistan's batting and if SA put up a huge first innings score, they might still blow them away.

Yeah, especially when he's actually a decent bowler. If your selectors think your best spinner is Xavier Doherty then sure, maybe try not to select him when you don't have to, but I don't even necessarily think Maharaj is a worse bowler than Olivier in the first place.
