Shame for Ireland, they were superb at the European Championships.

Perhaps need to look at the scheduling to get more of the top athletes competing.

Definitely disappointing to not have more top athletes competing - I guess part of the problem is that you've got to do the 4 x 400m individual gender relays as well. I wonder if you put it even the day after that, and just making it the last thing, you'd get people running it even if they ran they previous day.

Good work from Gill there, looked like she was going to be too far back.

Maybe a little lucky the Italian staggered a little, but she'll take it!

kinda getting my hopes up for Skotheim snaring the first NOR medal after a bunch of 4th and 5th

Also v curious how much Sifan Hassan will actually run

And an excellent run from Hodgkinson to round off a good day in the 800m from a GB perspective.

At the back, the woman from the refugee team (missed her name) runs a 4 second PB.

It kind of makes sense if you have a big name who gets tripped up. But it's largely just delaying the inevitable. How often does anyone who comes through a repechage win a medal?
I suppose it's less gruesome than some fastest loser knowing to run .1 seconds faster than you in the last heat.

Yep, middle distance running is tactics as much as pace so fastest loser never made sense to me as each heat runs differently

Second Brit wins his heat against Lyles. We should have a great chance in the relay but will probably **** that up as per

I thought we wouldn't be that bad, but we've been disqualified in the heats in 3 of the last 4 olympics, that's definitely not something to be proud of!

But if the England team can win penalty shootouts these days, maybe the GB sprinters can finish a race!
