and another nice bit of farce to finish the day
Sorta summed the day up really, didn't it?

It all just seems very unreal. I actually think credit must be given to SA who have been very professional throughout the whole debacle.

I felt so sorry for Davey Houghton after the game. Must be really galling to see a country who you've represented with distinction reduced to this.

What exactly happened at the end of the day?
the umpires thought the scheduled finish time was 6, and thus they could play on until half six. but the finish time was actually half 5 which meant they were meant to come of at six (which is a joke anyway). So they carried on till 7 minutes past before someone got the message and they came off.

Ahh. Test cricket standard all round then, I see.

I fear Zimbabwe will never recover from this. I would not like to be in the dressing room now!!

Seriously, this is another sad day for a poor benighted country the world is ignoring because they don't have any oil. I would like to refer to some of my posts in the Bangladesh thread, that I think it is unfair to kick these young players whilst they are down. This is not their fault! This is Mugabe's fault, and he must take responsobility.

So in your view it's better to allow a man in such form to play himself in comfortably than attack him straightaway even if it gives a few away? 8-)

5 down less than half way to the target starts the odd alarm bell.
And it's also much, much less likely.

Wow, I just read about today's play. Unbelievable (well, pretty believable actually, but you know what I mean)..

Well, they've been convincingly beaten by Bangladesh, and this was nothing short of an obliteration. Ultimately, if the ICC take action and suspend them, it might attract some needed attention, and still have some positive value. It seems like the wisden writers at cricinfo are openly begging the ICC to do it. They can't run away from the proclamation about standards they made just after the Sri Lankans toured forever, even if the issue has been (deliberately) muddied a tad by the return of Heath Streak and Blignaut.

4 wickets for Kallis too, Zim really must be a shower of something brown & smelly!
TBF he bowled far better than he has for a while.
I just hope he can do it in a game that matters.

Hmm... ICC have a habit of managing to pretend the most blatant of things are not happening in my experience... especially when there's $$$s at stake...

Any records that may come from this game shouldn't count - but of course they will.
Ah! Another learned source condemning Zimbabwe matches as incorrect to be counted as internationals!
Excellent stuff, TWC, excellent!

37.5 Cremer to de Villiers, OUT: uses his feet, thick outside edge goes

rip thru the rest of the tail now

Thats a bit harsh by cricinfo!
Couldn't have been sarcasm, could it? :)

I can't believe it's been done quicker. This is almost in excess of ODI scoring.
Just almost!
Even in the recently-completed ODI series SA got less runs off every 50-over allocation!

Amusing that Kallis was so keen to bowl when the Zim boys are in town... I forget what the exact phrase is that I thought was very appropriate when I heard it, something like 'red ink syndrome' (although he did only score Zimbabwe's total with the bat)?

Hopefully this farcical game will be dragged out for as long as possible so even the ICC can't ignore it.

Hardly likely, given that he's not taken responsibility for destroying everything else about the once beautiful and bountiful country. :sadangel:
I really think they will recover, though - who remembers the SL series where exactly the same thing happened? No-one.
Hopefully once Mugabe is deposed, and IF ICC have any compassion or thought for the true interests of the game, Zimbabwean cricket can recover.
But one thing for sure - the only people who benefit from this rubbish are the accountants. And it's no different with Bangladesh.

Wonderfully done on watching how well Kallis actually bowled.
If he can repeat that he'll get some good figures that actually have some meaning before too long.

I think Zimbabwe will recover when Mugabe is deposed but how long will it take? And if he goes whose to say some other Zanu crackpot like Jonathan Moyo won't take over?

We can only hope.
Humans have a way, no matter what tangled messes they concoct (and Zanu PF is without doubt one of the worst ever - only Nazi and the like really surpass) of eventually healing the scars.
Far from consolation, it's a terrible thought - but Zimbabwe may be back playing international-standard cricket in 2025.
