Definitely an interesting phenomenon in cricket, the loud noise as the ball passes the bat even though nothing has hit anything. What's the main source of said noise iyo?
Air pressure boundaries. There's a boundary of high air pressure around the ball and if the ball passes close enough to the bat the bat hitting that high pressure boundary can cause a noise.

Is this actually for real? Cos, sounds legit.

have wondered before if this is possible - maybe

all sorts of other things could potentially cause noise too - bat handle, batsman's joints, slip fielders clicking their fingers, fluctuations in the space time continuum, extra-terrestrials, a hundred very very small violins etc

If that was actually true and discovered, imagine the chorus of finger clicking we will see in the slips as the ball is bowled.

Honestly the batsman's joints thing is not as ridiculous as it sounds either. Generally when the batsman throws a bit of weight at the ball it tends to make a bit of a sound. Also feet scratching the ground etc.

Annoys me cos so often you hear the cliche "well the bat was away from the body, can't have been anything but bat", cos all that activity from the batsman tends to cause some sort of sound

Well, that's about as emphatic as it gets. 495/7d plays 51ao.
A lead of 444 on the first innings.

Where does that rate on the all time record list?

It's not India disguised as Zimbabwe out there is it?

Athers wanting to know the score as the final wicket fell haha. Too bad I'm out of credit.
