The player, who is of Asian heritage, said he was the victim of numerous instances of racist abuse, ‘both blatant and sly’, during his time at the club in the early 2000s and said: 'I had a player p*ss on my head'.

Yes was the moment I started totally ignoring Vaughan, don't engage with racists. Having said that I may immediately need my old sig back.

no, he's clearly not saying that, he's saying there was a peer-pressure and someone desperate to fit in after being extensively bullied possibly caved in?

what are you saying? even though you've already castigated people for pontificating about what happened, whilst not being there, so you probably can't have an opinion, which is a shame....
Same here mate. Since then have realised how odious he is by most of what he says and does. Just see his column about Archer and tagging him in it on his twitter.

We have a running thread about him on another cricket forum. So see all his garbage without needing to see his tweets via my own account

People been digging out his old tweets. One from 2010 commenting on how nobody speaks English in London. A classic racist trope.

Thanks for backing me RE the alcohol thing. Peer pressure and bullying change even the most steadfast of people.

British middle-class sports clubs used to be notorious for that type of "hazing". Footballers sometimes refer to rugby players as piss-drinkers.

To anyone sane it's just abuse and I don't doubt it was racist given the wider context.

Yeah I'm vaguely aware that it used to be a thing but that's the operative phrase: "used to", and in rugby IIRC it's been thoroughly stamped out (or at least the authorities claim it has). This sounds like it was pretty recent.

Yeah it's worth noting that many of the examples will be people who never got close to being publicly notable because they were basically pushed out of the game long before that stage.

I remembering hearing about the Pujara experience and thinking that if a universally well respected Asian player with 4000+ test runs @ 50+ is treated like this, what hope do the newbies have.

To be clear, I acknowledge that Australian cricket clearly has a problem in engaging with non white, Anglo-Saxons, which is why I support the New South Wales Australian government banning anyone associated with the Yorkshire County Cricket Club stepping foot in Australia for the immediate future, as we don't want their toxic influence to spread here. #yorkshirezero
you don't have to be this scared of bairstow in the ashes
