I think a 3 test series for the wtc would require hosting in one country so the arrangements could be made before hand. If that place was England and they didn’t qualify then it would leave a hole in their summer. Overall I think a 3 test series would be difficult to arrange.
A single test at the home ground of the ladder leader would be good. It’d probably get the prime spot for our next summer for example (the ashes would still qualify for the next round of the wtc).
Or just drop the final and give the title to the team that got the most points.

No ICC used to do that in other tournaments especially for Minor country with Limited Status but not in World Test Championship.

They effectively tried that in the CC. Away team had the choice to bowl first or it went to a toss if they wanted to bat. And yes, it produced roads.

No, they did it every few years for whoever was on top of the Test rankings. There was a trophy called the mace and they held a presentation ceremony

But there is a points system now with a ladder updated for each series completed. It would mean more than just a ranking system.

Weirdly, if you select the stats on Crapinfo for the WTC, it gives Brook 480 runs from 4 matches. Were some of his Tests not included in this qualifying period?

The 2 tests in NZ (1-1) weren't part of the WTC.
