Could be generalising, but for large sections of Indian society the discreet Tendulkar or Dravid type is seen as more of an ideal than Kohli who’s relatively unapologetic about his lifestyle. Because he wins most of the time this isn’t as much an issue as it could be. In an earlier era for example Vinod Kambli’s trappings were held against him as soon as the runs dried up.
