I haven't had the time to follow from more than afar post the Zimbabwe loss but intrigued reading the comments here. I had kind of assumed there was an element of a side absolutely at their lowest in terms of morale when it came to today's game. Like if Scotland finish 3rd its been a decent effort from them and whilst they won't be jumping for joy it probably wouldn't warrant a post-mortem into Scottish cricket. Whether West Indies finish 3rd or last its already been a disaster. The Zimbabwe loss already felt definitive given I couldn't really see WI beating Sri Lanka but certainly after the Netherlands defeat any slim hope there was had gone.

No doubt if Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka go through they have shown themselves to be better ODI teams than West Indies at the moment but I'm a bit more skeptical about the Netherlands or Scotland being better in spite of their wins. (Netherlands lost an ODI series 3-0 to West Indies only last year.) By no means is it a fluke or undeserved from Scotland or Netherlands to be ahead in Super Sixes but I'd still expect to see a West Indies win if they played a series next week.

I am intrigued about the Oman game. I guess not dissimilar to Chelsea at the end of the season in the Premier League - the campaign has already been an abject failure - its up to the players to show spirit and put in a convincing performance vs Oman.

Individual batting talent wise we should not be losing to them yes. But in every other way they are better than us, in planning, team spirit, effort, consistency, passion, fielding, work ethic etc.

So we thoroughly deserve to be in this position. May it signal a much needed ripping up of the current white ball side and a fresh start from the India series onwards. These players suck, let's at least play with youngsters who might actually give a damn and field properly.
How many changes are you making when you say ripping up the current white-ball side. Certainly change is needed but I'm also wary that the youngsters might get a few series but soon there will be huge pressure on them.

The bowling attack does seem very reliant on building pressure through a rising run-rate and if that doesn't work or a batter successfully takes risks to lower the required rate there is little in the bowling to produce a delivery to winkle a batter out. In terms of batting is the best possible lineup far away from this? King, Mayers, Athanaze (who you'd hope was in the thinking for after qualifiers regardless of if the team qualified), Hope, Pooran. Then looking at 2 all rounders presumably? Joseph (quickest WI bowler to 100 wkts) and Hosein presumably stay in the bowling attack. So 2 all rounders and 2 bowlers to find. I'd love for Jason Holder to fit in but he's had the chances and I'm not sure his batting can justify a spot at 6 or 7 and his bowling in ODIs can be very hit and miss to have him as one of 8-11 batters. Powell done his hopes no good with his batting when it comes to being the number 6. Shepherd probably not consistent enough with bat or ball.

The qualifiers have surely helped Alick Athanaze's case

Yep you've summarised my thoughts very well. Essentially, we build the batting around Hope, Pooran and Hety and the bowling around Alzarri and Akheil. Every other place is up for grabs. You could argue King is still locked in as an opener but Mayers is certainly under threat. Athanaze definitely comes into the side, he should have been here anyway ahead of Charles.

I think Jason Holder should retire from ODIs and focus on tests and T20's, it's time for a fresh start.

Charles, Powell, Brooks and Chase should all be done in ODIs. Shepherd is not good enough with the ball so needs dropping until that changes.

Hetmyer averages 37 at 3 , SR 108 ..More importantly he's got 2 hundreds there ...

You do need 2 spinners in ODI cricket , especially in the conditions you usually get in the West Indies , plus in my XI there is already 4 seamers ..

So Sinclair as an offbreak bowler for the lefthanders , Akeal Hosein to trouble the right handers with his left arm spin..

I'd also have Obed McCoy , Jaydon Seales , Joshua Da Silva and Brandon King in the squad.

In ODI cricket yes! We have sucked at the format for nearly 10 years now.

Test cricket we're still top 8 and can beat anyone on our day, particularly at home.

T20's we verge between associate level and being decent depending on Pooran and Powell's form.
Yeah I still tthink they can make a solid team in tests. They have got some good players and the most important thing is they have got some exciting young players.

India should scrap 5 T20I vs Windies in up coming tour & play 3+3 ODI good for westindies
Now its too late atleast they should have made to play 3 tests. I am just looking for the test series , i know Ind will defeat them 2-0 but that's the only format they can compete.
