Now you're just trolling. It should be clear to all that I DO turn on the TV, every single week of the season. That's why I know intricate details of the sport while you're left floundering and reduced to posting clangers like "the Williams sisters only play the grand slams".
''Intricate details'' haha. You are certainly a smug so and so.

I did not say that. I was paraphrasing somebody who said that, BBC commentator or pundit former-player who presumably knows more about the sport than you do. I'll take there word thank you very much and not yours.

Of course you'll take their word because you're intellectually lazy and/or have an inability to do a simple google search. Here's a tip: type "Serena Williams results 2016" into the search engine and then begin penning your apology.

Federer has never played Queens. He plays the Halle grass court tournament every year, which is the same week. Nadal plays Queens regularly when not injured.

Back on topic, Amelia Kerr is going to be a NZ great. 16 and plays for NZ already, opens the batting for Wellington as well as bowling wicket taking legspin. Granddaughter of BAGS Murray and goes to my old high school. What's not to like?
We saw a bit of her back in 2015. Pretty cool that she's already delivering for New Zealand.

Fred Tetanus is a tool but he's 100% right in everything he's saying here, and frankly I just don't understand why you are arguing with him because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about and he clearly does. Continuing to argue with him is going to achieve nothing other than make yourself look like an idiot and give him more of an opportunity to be a smug so and so.

Why is my point about me paraphrasing something a tennis expert and/or former player said being ignored? There must be some truth in it!

I'm already about as popular as AIDS on here so obviously do not care how I look.

Because you've missed the context of what your tennis expert is saying. By saying a tennis player will 'concentrate on the grand slams' means they'll tailor their playing seasons towards them, not that these will be the only tournaments they enter. A quick check of Google for said player will confirm that.

Now, back to women's cricket. What do you think of that Amelia Kerr? Some player, hey?

That is, ehh, pretty much want I meant!

Doesn't spin the leggie much, but is pretty accurate, that googly is some ball though, even if you could read it it's still going to be dangerous.

This is absolute coincidence. I cannot believe I'm listening to this. I'm currently listening to a BBC 5 pod cast with Freddie Flintoff and (footballer) Robbie Savage and lo and behold, the host - the discussion was sportsman being overworked (or lazy) - began discussing how tennis players concentrate on the four slams, having ''six months off'', ''dropping out of the Davis Cup'', etc.

I guess he does not know ''intricate details'' either like Smug Fred boy over there?

I was beginning to doubt myself for a second! I'm sure I'd heard that argument put forth by tennis experts on multiple occasions, players ditching competitions in favour of the four slams.

The podcast in question: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04tjjq7

No tennis player has '6 months off' and still plays all the grand slams. That is not possible. What is your point here, S Kennedy?

And what do you of Amelia Kerr?

Which players had 6 months off for non-injury related reasons? This is going to be goooooood!

Just shut up about tennis. Let's focus on women's cricket discussion, which has already amassed an impressive four pages (40 posts per page view) since this thread was started a mere 13 years.

Well I'm not going to be accused of being wrong - being called ''intellectually lazy'' etc - when I am evidently not wrong and am in fact merely repeating a prevalent conversation among the tennis fraternity! Would you let a conversation go when somebody accused you of being wrong and lacking knowledge about a subject you do have knowledge of when you knew you were thoroughly correct?

I expect a full apology from Fred Smugness.

What do you an apology for? Showing you up as having no idea? Ok I'm sorry for exposing your cluelessness.

Lol, IKR...what has this thread morphed into? I wrote a congratulatory post about the White-ferns followed by a question around the equivalent historical comparison with men's cricket. Didn't expect 3-4 pages of debates about the merits of women's tennis following it.

Your straw grasping is just sad. Of course they want to do well in the events with the biggest prize money. You didn't say that though. Try educating yourself on reality. Nice try but you've still well and truly embarrassed yourself.
You accused me of speaking rubbish about players concentrating on Slams, yet when I produce evidence of players concentrating on Slams you completely avoid the argument! I was correct and you were incorrect. At least admit it.
