Force of habit probably. At least in England, and probably beyond, young cricketers have for some time been required to wear helmets.

It's not like any of the men removed their helmets when facing Lyon, Moeen or Root either.

The only time bats remove their helmets are basically India or Pakistan tests where they know they'll be facing spin for the next two hours and they also want to cool off.

Good fightback by England after I went to bed in the rain delay! I'd still say Australia is on top, but not by as much as I might have expected.

I'd have Australia slightly ahead, but the pitch looks pretty flat and you'd think 400 is probably par. Given the way Ecclestone bowled, I'd imagine King is going to be key for the Aussies. But England bat deep and racked up 500 last week in a day against Australia A. Certainly more interesting now than it looked like being at 200-2.

I hate it when people say this.

But umpire'ses call should be given out as a rule. Maybe not on impact but certainly on whether it hits the stumps.
