Just caught up with the full replay - enjoyable game with a fantastic atmosphere, and no surprise to see Australia just too good again.

But I hope the interest this has sparked in South Africa might be the start of better things for them.

Worth pointing out that all 3 knockout games were won by the team winning the toss and batting first. Can't help feeling the two semis might have gone the other way with the toss. Australia were definitely not as far ahead here as everyone thought and might have had a little bit of help from the coin to get over the line.

I wouldn’t bet on it as the popularity of women’s cricket is exploding in Australia and is backed by big $ from government

Just as likely that Australia improves as the sport will attract a better caliber of athlete
This is happening all over the world. I have been coaching at a Girl's Club that started 7 years ago and is already providing County Cricketers with 2 of the girls now signed up to the Ageas franchises. That just wouldn't have happened previously. I think the much maligned Hundred is also proving a very useful tool whilst we can only imagine what the WPL will do in India.

I suspect the big 3 will dominate more and the chances of seeing SA or WI in a Final again are probably pretty remote.

On what basis do you make this claim... I`m not saying you are wrong, I just want to know what you know about SA and WI women's cricket to make the assertions?

Think we will see a 2008 situation emerge soon with Women's cricket, with Australia losing some key players and India emerging how they did around the time IPL started off on the men's side.
South Africa must pull finger and do something. Although its CSA so dont hold your breath. They were lucky with these bunch of ladies and they wont last forever. The usual suspects are going to the WIPL (and one or two surprisingly not), but what about the rest

Because Australia and England have been running large T20 style tournaments alongside their Men's events. India are getting in on the act now too.

The new SA T20 was good, what they need to do is add a Women's Competition to run in conjunction that will attract foreign stars to play amongst the majority of local players. I think that makes a big difference. Hopefully, the impact of this World Cup will be big in SA and lots of new players will be attracted, but a high quality domestic comp is key to keeping that momentum.

As for the WI, they seem to be in serious decline from where they were in comparison to other nations.

Hopefully there are plans to have a women's version of the SA20. But it may have been necessary to start off with men only in order to get it off the ground as it was already a bit of a speculative punt from the partners as nobody had any idea how successful it was going be, and I can imagine how they might have been reluctant to go for the additional unknown element of a women's component.

Yeah I think that's fair. The women's game is largely subsidised by the men's game, and that's fine if your goal is to grow and nurture the sport and just not make money, but it does mean risky ventures on men's competitions have to happen and succed before they can spread to the women's game.

Agree with both of these posts. I just think that until it does happen, it will hold SA Women's Cricket back in comparison to those who do have such tournaments, both from attracting girls to the game, and enhancing the skills of those already playing.

Commisioner said a week or so back it's in future plans but not yet. They are worried about not having enough quality local talent.

Test cricket will be dominated by the big countries, but small countries should be able to compete in T20. Their good players will be playing in T20 leagues getting good practice.
