I think if England had an easy winter now would be a good time to be parting ways with Bayliss as test coach. Team going no-where. It's clear when he does interviews that he's too thinly spread and has no idea about the players under the first xi.
However with the ashes coming up it's too late to bring in a new coach. Better off letting Bayliss go down with the ship or maybe he can save his tenure (although I rather think he might split after the ashes either way).

He's done an excellent job with the white ball teams so he could concentrate full time on that

It's certainly pretty clear that he's got no idea what's going on at county level.

How much of England's more recent ODI success is down to Bayliss and how much down to picking a better side, especially with regards to power hitting?

He hasn't won anything though, has he? Lost the t20 final (thankfully) and couldn't win the champions trophy at home.

I dunno but you could say the same about the test side. How much is to do with Bayliss and how much is it due to the quality of player on offer?

Bayliss was selected as coach for a large part on his white ball credentials so I'm inclined to believe that he's certainly been part of the improvement. Guys like Roy and Hales were pretty flaky early in their careers and they backed them. And picking the right team is certainly something the coach has input in.

Bayliss is a myth, but I don't see an obvious quality option. A guy who watches players before we pick them might be of some use though.

Massive improvement since the 2015 WC and given they basically started with a completely new team after the WC with bowling that was panned as terrible. I'd say he's done very well.

The target is the 2019 WC. I've certainly seen enough to think we're going in the right direction and got a big chance of winning 2019 WC.

Only one team can win a tournament at the end of the day and everybody is trying to win it, so not winning a tournament is going to happen often even for good teams.

How well does a coach need to know the players outside of the top 11, 12 or 13 players? I would be interested to know how much Stuart Law knows about our fringe players for example. My impression is that the batting coach Toby Radford and bowling coach Roddy Estwick are heavily involved with the A team/Presidents XI set up and therefore have a good knowledge of the top 20/30 players but the coach concentrates solely on what he's given by the selectors.

Is Bayliss a member of the 'I only coach the first XI' camp?' There are quite a few who agree with that approach, I wonder if it is part of his remit.

I liked the idea of Gillespie when he was raised as an option, but not really for any definite reason, and in any case I think his ship has sailed.

Just because bravos contracted to the cpl shouldnt mean he cant get called up halfway through a test series. Im sure an england player could get taken away from the t20 blast at any moment. Highlights the differences and power the ecb have and the wicb have over their players.
Besides i dont know why your writing yourselves off completely, you played brilliantly in the last test but it was far from perfect, your best bat in the last 2 years is still to contribute (chase) and the fielding can improve considerably. England normally bounce back well but i think by beating us at headingly you have already ensured broad and anderson play one test more than we had planned this summer

I know the game and indeed the world is changing all the time, but I don't think mercenaries joining a Tour party half way through a series would go down well with those already in the side.

Didnt bravo turn down t20 opportunities and the t20 world cup to concentrate on test cricket, then went on to score massively away to pakistan? This is what started his whole problem with the board, after dedicating and doing so well for the test side he was put on a lesser contract than others who play across more than one format.
I wouldnt class him as a mercenary. I went to barnados to watch england couple years ago and he was the liveliest in the field seemed a good team player

I see that while I've not been watching much cricket the Cult of Positivity has grown so powerful that an international captain can think "it was positive so it was" is an acceptable excuse for handing your opponents an entire test with a botched declaration.

Fair point. Bishoo it is then. My team for Lords:

Kraigg Braithwaite
Kyle Hope
Shimron Hetmeyer
Shai Hope
Roston Chase
Jermaine Blackwood
Shane Dowrich
Jason Holder
Devendra Bishoo
Kemar Roach
Shannon Gabriel

I think they'll keep the same side though unless Shimron hits big runs in the warm up match.
Axing Powell then. Fair enough.

Bring in Shimron for Powell.

Kraigg and Shimron at the opening slot is a well-balanced one with a mixture of defense and aggressiveness.

If Holder is not too comfortable with Bishoo in the team, then he should bring in Alzarri. But he seriously needs to get his **** together in relation to utilizing his main spinner in Bishoo.
