Yeah I think about 27s is fair reflection of him as a bowler. Below ATG category but better than 29-30 calibre.
He's taken his last 350 wickets at 24.

His poor start to Test cricket obscures how great a bowler he's been for the vast majority of his career.

Not really in doubt. TRJ has been best bowler in county cricket for about 3 years but Stokes has a great role in the side and only a player like him could do it. Yes he gets it wrong at times like today but he would walk into every side in the world easily but TRJ wouldn't.
Thats because TRJ is not an allrounder and there are many players like him but Stokes is of a kind which is rare these days in cricket

He hasn't really 'averaged 26' for any time though has he? He's averaged high 30s in his first few series, and then low 20s for this decade punctuated with the odd poor tour.

Really this kind of conversation reminds me that career averages tell you less than just about any other stat
Most of his poor tours this decade have coincided with injuries. Australia 2013/14 - turns out he was bowling with a cracked rib all series. South Africa 15/16 and India 16/17 misses the first Test of both series with injury and struggles to recover his bowling during the rest of the series.

New Zealand in 2012/13 is the last poor series I can remember from him where there haven't been mitigating circumstances.

How many times this summer has one of our players been on a hattrick? Must be approaching double figures.

Not even men against boys is it, men against girls perhaps.
I dunno, I reckon the Aus and English lasses would put up a bit more grit, fight and determination than these sorry sacks.

Well done Broad, next step 400, and should make it into the 500's. He's still bowled (for the most part) a load of crap this summer, desperately need him on all cylinders in Aus.

And there we go, Stuart Broad is now our second-highest test wicket-taker

Kinda weird in a way, if you only saw the early careers of Jimmy & Stu, you'd find the idea that they would go on to be our 1 & 2 fairly absurd

That blimp/helicopter shot they've just done of the ground looks ****ing great btw.

Always amazes me watching D/N cricket in England how early it gets dark in August.

Absolutely pathetic. No excuses. Time to prove they're not as bad as they looked in this match.

I hope we show a bit more intent at headingly. Like bowl a bouncer or two. Play a bit more like Blackwood did then looking like deer in the headlights.

Congrats to Stuart Broad, he's had a wonderful career.
