Alzarri Joseph averages 18.25 against Joe Root in Test cricket, with four dismissals.

The only bowler to dismiss Root as often, with a better average, is Ryan Harris (five wickets @ 15.00).

Wouldn't be a bad bowler to model himself on there...

Given the #batdeep batting order, they are looking at 350 easy IMO. Unless Windies pull a rabbit out of the bag, but Gabriel being half the bowler he was last game and Roach being unlucky means it is all very very unlikely. If Stokes beds in, could be trouble for Windies.

Would be interested to see our first innings scores against second innings scores recently. Feels like we always **** up the first.

They rarely leave out Cummins these days though. Assuming Anderson is his English counterpart in terms of skill, how clever is it to handicap yourself in a series-deciding game? Not saying Anderson isn't legit sore, just that it throws general team rhythm into the lurch.

That's a terrible shot. Looks like WI are riding destiny's wings here.
Kinda hard to have a strong opinion with no medical expertise or info about Anderson or Cummins’s bodies. But lots of fast bowlers aren’t durable enough to play 3 back-to-back tests without taking on too much injury risk, especially not at 39, so there’s no reason to think they’ve got this one wrong.

I quite like how Sibley just bats on at the same pace. So many in the team try and get on with it but he is doing his bit and has a few decent scores already in his young career.

fwiw he's currently averaging over 50 after his first couple of tests in NZ, so he seems to me moving in the right direction.

Also averages 42 which if maintained would be a sizeable step forward.

112/3 isn't bad after being put in really, though it could have been better since the Windies have only bowled well sporadically. Batting last will be a tough ask, it's looking more like the OT pitches we used to get 10+ years ago before they turned the square, where Monty Panesar took loads of wickets.

The only hope Windies have is to chase less than 100 in the last dig and stars have to align way too much for that to happen. More likely they do better next test than this one and by including Rakheem. A lot depends on which Gabriel comes out post tea today, or if the light is so bad they can't bowl seamers, which Gabriel comes out tomm.

I'm not sure Gabriel has come out at all after a hammy pull
