***Official*** West Indies tour of Australia, Jan–Feb 2024

Qlder

International Regular
Fraser-McGurk SR this season

Marsh Cup - 267.07
ODI - 200.00
BBL - 158.64
Shield - 90.25

Be nice if he can last more than 5 balls next time though

Beamer

International Vice-Captain
He only returned to domestic cricket at the Super50 and earned a recall without any justifiable reason.

Another strange but yet so typical West Indian selection policy.
He seems to have put weight on again as well. I fear he is a doomed project.

What's his averages?

Would you rather we selected Ashley Chandrasinghe?
No, he's never played a List A (I realise you're being silly).

It's a very Gen Z approach, swinging off the arse first ball of an ODI career. Trying to establish something in a highlight reel, as opposed to actually watching the ball like 150 years of batsmen have done. Nothing's changed so markedly that it's a fair idea to pull the very first ball you face in international cricket.

Mentioned in the Oz domestic thread that some of the coaching I have seen is just bizarre

Factor in the potential monetary rewards for t20 hitters and we’re developing a generation of players who don’t place a price on their wicket

I'm intrigued by that - what sort of coaching have you seen?

From afar, the Fraser-McGurk selection seems as much to appease the general public and their bloodlust for boshing as it does to pick the best guy for the XI. One big hundred in the Marsh Cup, and 3 failures. Good enough to get you a spot. The guy who absolutely set the Big Bash on fire is forced to bat 7, because what...he bowls?

Very interesting to where we get to in 10 years time, when it's a full generation of players raised on T20 and playing for a spot on Youtube shorts.

I have no issue with JFM playing this series tbh. If they think he's talented enough to potentially be a good player for Australia then that's enough reason to give him a go given how one day selection works these days. It's him opening instead of Short I find baffling.

Batsman net session lasts 18 minutes and is divided into 3 blocks of 6 minutes each

First 6 minutes is for playing themselves in

Second 6 minutes is for playing more shots

Third 6 minutes is for “expressing themselves”

Coaches don’t care if the kid gets out 20 times in the last 6 minutes

How does that teach them anything?

And this is a template given to them by CA? Or is it just something a bunch of volunteers who know FA about the game do?

The issues may be going forward, as first class cricket and batting time becomes less and less relevant, is that guys have no base to hit from. It definitely needs to be impressed upon young players that even power hitting needs to come from a solid base of weight distribution, head position, watching the ball, playing it late, and being smart hitters, too (ie field settings, hitting with the wind, playing percentages etc). Of course I'd give an F if a kid got out 20 times in six minutes, unless we were working on something and they were getting good feedback on what was going well/not so well.

I see that becoming less and less relevant, and results will follow.

That’s a coaching session conducted by Queensland Cricket coaches for a select group of juniors & not a bunch of dads

McDermott the latest blow-in to be added to the squad. Honestly it's weird that he wasn't in the side in the first place instead of Marnus, who really needs a break.

Does anyone believe that Marnus will actually take a break for even a couple of days?
