Fine article , Liam . I only disagree with you on Smith for Ganga. I feel Ganga is a much more attacking batsman now and in turn a better batsman now and so i think he should be persisted with.

Rampaul shouldn't be let near the West Indies senior side... yet.
I'm sure he'll play in the one-dayers and I don't really see why he shouldn't. Are you worried about him not being good enough?

My sources said that Rampaul was air-marked for the 1st ODI, but it appears now as though he won't play (thank God!).

And as soon as I post the above, I check the official WICB website to see...

Brian Lara (captain), Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ricardo Powell, Carlton Baugh Jr, Vasbert Drakes, Mervyn Dillon, Ravi Rampaul.

Oh dear. This can't be good.

(Rampaul bags 5 wickets in 5....4....3...2..)

I just fear that he's not ready and that he will be exposed too soon. He may do well against Zimbabwe, but South Africa will probably tear him apart. IMO he needs at least one more FC season. He's only 19!

WOW! Brian Lara has unleashed himself on this Zimbabwean attack. What entertainment!

BC Lara 111 not out off 79 balls.
14 fours : 3 sixes

He's now the highest West Indian century-maker in ODI cricket.

Spare a thought for Gayle on 92 not out...

It had to take a run out to dismiss Lara today for 113 off 82 balls.

253/3

Contrasting innings from Sarwan - comes in and is run out without facing a ball.

Fingers crossed that Powell comes in now. :)

Well Chanderpaul is certainly an umpire's best friend on this tour. He just received his 3rd consecutive poor decision (LBW for 8) and his 4th in 5 innings. Bravo.

Chris Gayle 153 not out off 160 balls. That's his highest ODI score beating his 152 v Kenya. He started slowly but really picked it up, taking 19 off Blignaut's last over (48th) and 12 off the 5 balls he saw in the last over (Ervine).

West Indies 347/6 (50 overs)

A good chance for him to pick up wkts on his debut with Zim chasing the game. I agree that he shouldn't go to SA. I would replace him with a specialist spinner.

Great to see Chrissy back in form!

With rain expected to come soon, Lara started with the spinners from the 6th over. Gayle then proceeded to bowl a double wicket maiden with two wickets in two balls.
