***Official West Indies in New Zealand***

Not Terrible
Also the team averages must be phenomenal at the moment. McIntosh, Ryder and Flynn must be all close to 50. Taylor close to 40. McCullum low to mid 30's. Vettori and Franklin mid 20's.

And the bowling has Franklin and O'Brien sub 30. With Patel and Vettori only marginally above.

Yeah, after a colossal amount of limited-overs cricket against WI, Australia and India.

I thought How looked quite good in the second innings.
Only after he'd been given a life from an easy opportunity dropped by Taylor at Mid-on and sold Flynn out. Before that drop, he'd played one classy straight-drive and not much else to write home about. He looked better after, but mainly due to the adrenaline and guilt running through him from the run out. Don't forget that his drop of Edwards meant that the chase was that much harder (in all likelihood) and he was atrocious in the first dig. His only decent shot got him out.

Huuuugely disappointed. The referral system has some MASSIVE issues if that kind of call can't be reversed. I think you'd rarely find a more text book example of a situation where the referral should lead to the right call. Shocking.

But to be honest, we really should've won this match anyway. Two shocking sessions (The sunday afternoon session and this morning), and a couple of dropped catches were the main reason why we failed to get up and win. On the whole, I think New Zealand was the better of the two sides, but it was the extra experience of Chanderpaul and Gayle that at key moments managed to keep the windies going and stop New Zealand from getting too far ahead, so in the end, a 0-0 draw is a fair result.

A little frustrated that a) the pitches that these two matches were played on were both completely lifeless; and b) that this is only a 2 match series. After this, we would've been perfectly set up to go into round 3 after two relatively even matches. Gutted the real cricket is over until next March.

Absolutely agree. I found it a bit irritating that the commentators repeatedly praised the groundsman during this match for the pitch he produced.

To be fair, if the Dunedin weather hadn't been so aweful we probably would've had a result in the first test (or at least a close finish like this afternoon) and to have a pitch in Napier that going into day five still allowed for all three results IMO shows that the pitches not only lasted the distance but allowed for results. Personally I'm not complaining about the pitches. As I say, had the weather been better, and New Zealand dismissed Edwards and Powell earlier today we could've, and probably should've, seen a result in each test.

I do agree that it was disappointing to conclude the series with only two tests played - three minimum, please!!

Still the positive is that we might now have a decent opener.

For the West Indies, I have been hugely impressed with Brendan Nash. It was a big punt to move to Jamaica and then to make it Test level and get runs in a short space of time.

Well, if you are talking about dropped catches, Ramdin's ****-up gifted the New Zealanders an extra 100 plus runs. Different game then without Mac's ton.

Not sure where the game was at exactly as I driving home at the time, but why did Vettori agree to a draw to end the game? I thought we needed about 110 more runs or so off 16-17 overs. With Ryder still there wasn't it still possible?

I'm hoping we prepare some real green seaming pitches for the Indian series like we did last time.

Yep and had How not been dropped it would've cost us 40 odd runs for our final chase. Still should've one the match though.

By the end we needed 80 off the last 8 and a bit overs, so there wasn't any real chance of tracking it down.

But Ryder and Franklin had blocked out 4 or 5 overs by that point. Realistically, the target was about 90 off 15 overs and they should have gone for it. NZ would have lost nothing other than the game. A draw costs them as nearly as much and there was plenty of batting to come.

Agreed, I was quite disappointed.
