I can see there's plenty of kiwis foaming at the mouth, closing ranks at the moment

1) Face it NZ need a big scoring top order batsmen who shouldn't be selected on any potential bowling prospect or made to turn his arm over.

2) I probably shouldn't have labelled the NZ batsmen as average batsmen who bowl military medium (although i don't get why at 34 Astle is still forced to turn his arm over in tests when they already have four bowlers in the team, when he's far more use as a batsmen) and i'm sorry if i got it wrong.

3) They do need a specialist strike bowler either someone who's very accurate (e.g. Pollock) or another pace bowler to at least give fleming some options.

If you read back through this thread you will see that Astle has been perfrorming rather well as a bowler in recent times. And yes, we do need one more great batsmen and one more great bowler. But doesn't every team?

Dibbly Dobbly Wibbly and Wobbly.

You're right.

Imagine that attack with Bond!

Sort of like the Seven Dwarves having Doc as the odd one out.

Anyone else pick up McCullum constantly saying "Bowled Piggo", when Styris was bowling the other day?

He could have been Piggy.

Yeah but i can't see (especially when you consider his position in the order) why he shouldn't concentrate on his batting more.

I don't see how 10-12 overs an innings would negatively affect his batting TBH...

He doesn't bowl and bat at the same time. I think he's a better player with the bat when he's having the occasional bowl as well - and having success.

I didn't realise disagreeing with you was the same as "foaming at the mouth".

Umm, Jamie How, Hamish Marshall, Stephen Fleming, Peter Fulton, etc, etc.

This is a really poor assertion to make considering how well he's been bowling. He dismissed Brian Lara twice in the recent series. Also, how does having him bowl affect his batting?

Two words. Shane Bond.

Maybe you should do a little research before baiting people who probably know a little more than you on the subject.

Why single Astle out when he's one of the two heaviest scorers in the team?

It was just a comment saying NZ already had enough bowlers and batsmen who bowled, and that they should be looking for specialist batsmen from now on and just an observation that NZ has produced a fair few batting allrounders.

Where's all this agression coming from?

Rod Latham was also very heavy. You know, for his height.
Possibly the fattest fullback in NZ rugby in the 1980s. Yet, he was good enough to enter the Canterbury line from the back during their 1982-85 Shield era when "Give it a boot, Robbie" Deans was away.

Give me Lindsay Harris any day of the week. Although the moustache was a bit "fruity".

It's not aggression, mate. Just disagreeing with you.
