Wow what a comeback that is. It is a measure of how awful the middle order collapse was that we are still not in a position of strength even after a dominant partnership like that. If we can get between 350 and 400 we'll give ourselves a chance because the pitch is already turning a bit, the left armers will be creating footmarks for our spinners and New Zealand will be batting last. Of course, our pacers are so poor that there is the possibility NZ will get a huge first innings score and negate that. But if they don't it's advantage us.

Just looking back over this thread, a few of you are unbelievably harsh on Ramdin. He's not the greatest keeper/batsman ever and if we had better options he would have spent an awful lot more time on the sidelines, but he played a brilliant knock yesterday at a crunch time when everything was going against us and morale was really low. Well played Denesh!

Yes he can be a bit of a hothead and the Sir Viv incident was ludicrous. But most of you sing Watling's praises and over the last 18 months I'm pretty sure Ramdin has been averaging more than him (46 with 3 hundreds). That's pretty damn good.

Though Watling has potential.. right now it's not even a contest imo!!..Ramdin has scored three tons over the last 12 months or so!!..all away from home..and the one in England was just as impressive as the one he got yesterday. Of course he's struggled with consistancy for much of his career but over the last year or so he's averaged over 40 in test cricket!!..just behind Chanderpaul and Samuels as our main batsmen.

After this i think his claim to take the captaincy will be strong!!..although i'd probably prefer to give young Darren Bravo the chance like SA did with Smith i wouldn't have no complaints if Denesh took over for he next two series vs NZ and Bangledash at home next year.

The hallmark of bad sides is lots of players with very few test caps each, because selectors panic and go searching for instant results, and it never works. See England and NZ 1995, NZ 2007 - 2011 etc.

Remember when Southee was a 40 average bowler and people were calling for him to be dropped?

Selection stability is critical for team development. Critical.

Yeah I just really don't like the guy. He's actually hugely talented but he must be one of the most lazy cricketers I've ever seen. I hate how he never runs up to the stumps when runouts could be attempted.

When he first came on the scene he looked athletic and talented, now I don't see him making big dives to save byes, and I wouldn't want to be fielding at first slip with him. It's actually ridiculous to consider that Haddin at 36 looks more athletic and spry than Ramdin - especially after seeing Denesh as a 20 yo. One of my biggest disappointments, tbh.

Haha that would be me. We've all got those players we simply don't rate. To me he batted like he always (loose, little application or character) does and got away with it this time. Absolutely fair play to him nevertheless.

Didn't realise we had three or four blokes who can bowl inswing at pace. How times change eh. Now we're the ones with the good bowlers and ND just have a few medium pacers to show for their post Southee and Boult investments.

Hey Beamer!!.have you heard the big rumours about Gibson and Sammy being replaced by Junior Bennett and Ramdin respectively after this series? The Gibson rumours have been rife for a while now because apparently he's going to Durham...while thankfully the Sammy shambles seems to be finally coming to an end now.

Bennett would be an interesting choice...won five four day titles in a row for Jamaica and has just had a successful tour coaching the A-team in India.
