Yeah apart from Bravo's innings we've dominated the WIndies fairly comprehensively over two Tests. How good is Boult??? I think most people tend to think of Southee as the better bowler because he's been around for longer but I can't separate the two. Boult is a bona fide leading man in this attack, and seems more likely to pull off a dominating spell than Southee.
1st Test: England v New Zealand at Lord's, May 16-19, 2013 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

Hai!!

I think Southee is still the better bowler. While he didn't take the pile of wickets in this match, he still did take the important wickets after lunch that allowed Boult to clean up the tail this afternoon, and he's more consistent than Boult at the moment. But it's really great having two awesome bowlers like those guys in the side.

Is Patel a good spinner? He picked up wickets against them a couple of years ago in India. Sometimes I think we overrate the sub continental guys against spin. They are not that amazing.
it would be somewhat reasonable to play him IN india where the wickets are somewhat conductive. Playing him on far more slippery nz wickets against them is suicide though.

I think both of them would be less effective without the other. Peeps would just see them off. Which makes Hadlee stand out even more to me now that I think about it. We got twenty wickets because of both of them. Tim still got 5 wickets for the match which is an excellent return for a quiet match.

So how much credit does Wagner's improvement buy him and can he sustain it?

He gets the series imo but just. Reassess closer to India.

Bahnz is always good value for putting the Boult love into context; his harshest critic. Not in a bad way or anything - he's always fair and logical about it - but he's always the first to point out when he's bowled a poor spell, the first to insist Southee is still a level above, etc. Good to have so we don't end up group-thinking ourselves into eventual disappointment.

It's nice to have two good test bowlers who compliment each other.

Takes me back to the days of Cairns and Nash when we demolished England in England.

He's still pretty bad, being able to bathe amongst the uncertainty created by boult and southee being jesus doesn't hide that

Yeah Wagner needs to continue the improvement and get even better at Hamilton than he was today.

Oh and hats off to the curators. A perfect NZ pitch: bounce and sideways movement for the bowlers, but the batsman could still play their shots in comfort when the bowlers erred in line and length.

Where most fast bowlers might be more reserved in fear of injuring themselves Boult goes and pulls this off phenomenal catch.

Deadset, the amount of effort he puts in each test I just wanna go out there and boof him.

What impressed me most about this match was the penetration with the old ball and our fourth seamer usually bowling well and contributing important wickets.

And of course Taylor being the man.

I thought Anderson did his job perfectly. I'd like to see more of his bowling but he looked like a genuine specialist seamer of what I did see. Not 3rd seamer material yet but it's encouraging.

Well it was a lot easier this match, because the soft outfield and overcast conditions kept the ball swinging for 50 overs (stopped swinging after 30 at Dunedin). Still, it was pleasing to see Anderson keeping it tight when Wagner lost the plot yesterday evening.

I wrote a long post that was tl;dr bottom line if he goes well in Hamilton I would give him more chances regardless of the opposition. But my answer is very much dependent on his Hamilton performance. He needs to take a decent haul in one innings to announce himself as I agree he has been patchy so far and we could even say inaccurate.

I've always banged on about Anderson's bowling and I probably over rate his current stuff a bit but he genuinely has it in him to be a test standard operator once he feels confident enough in his own body to bowl at full tilt and if you pair that sort of bowling with his batting which also has room to get even better you get an allrounder who can be up there with Oram, Cairns and Reid.

I think Wagner will barely get a bowl in Hamilton. It's going to swing around corners. I don't think WI will make more than 200 in each innings.
