**Official** West Indies in England 2012

He has a Test wicket
'Twas a "one hand, one bounce" C&B if memory serves. on our 05/06 tour of Pakistan.

I've always thought Bell was underbowled generally. No real pace, but bowled wicket to wicket with a little in shape to the right-handers. No worse than Trott, certainly.

Hasn't Bell had a few back problems and that is why he doesn't bowl anymore?

Before the Aussies jump in it isn't a lack of a spine either.

All this talk about Bell's bowling raises an interesting and very serious point of discussion.

Are England the only team who's 10 and 11 (Swann and Anderson) would do a better job opening the batting than the opening batsmen would do opening the bowling?

I think that'd apply to most teams considering the opening bats never have to bowl and the tailenders almost always have to bat.

The West Indies #10 and #11 may actually do a better job of opening the batting than their opening batsmen.

I quite like the cut of this Gabriel chap's jib. Looks a tidy bowler.

Glad to be able to watch some proper test cricket again, though I have seen a fair dose of International Cricket Captain 'dive over the ball' fielding in this Test so far.

I am enjoying Ian Bell's straight bat to deliveries on his middle stump. So many different ways of playing that ball. You can whip it through the leg side - or dead bat it - he sort of gently pushes the ball away.

It is not a natural shot to defend a ball at middle stump and it needs to be a skill mastered at a young age if you want to be a good bat.
