*Official* West Indies in Bangladesh 2021

Just wondering why Bangladesh declared with still 2 wickets in the tank left with a lead of 394....

Surely just let the last 2 batsmen try to come in and try thrash it around for another 15-20 runs and make the 4th innings target more psychologically imposing.

Even if they get bowled or holed out after lasting 4 or 5 balls if they've managed to hit a couple of sixes & fours it makes it all the more worthwhile.

He was used as a lower order biffer by various teams and bowled lots of overs. In the last few years he had batted at 5 or 6 and that average is going up rapidly.

This is particularly impressive as his weakness is off spin bowling and he has played it really well. I'm impressed. I'd like to see him take Chase's spot in the team.

Looked up his First Class ststistics on Day 2 and thought to myself that this is a guy with an unusually low average for all the 50 plus scores he has from his 53 innings. Now I come back and see he has gone and won the game

ah that was amazing! we’ve said before here that the WI, given that they’ve got those pacers, could give most teams a good shake if they had just a bit of extra starch in their batting lineup to stop the big lolapses

and if that was anything to go by, kyle mayers has leagues more starch than shai hope is showing at the moment - that team with holder et al back in it would be something fierce!

Phenomenal effort that... Watched the last hour of the test match. The other two test matches took a back seat yesterday. This was way more exciting to watch.

An entire team scoring 200 is hard enough and Mayers scored on his own that many. More than 50% of team runs on a 5th day on a test debut. Bangladesh aren't push overs these days particularly at home so it's a special feat.

He was in NZ couple of months ago and played vs NZ A but didn't do anything special to sit up and notice. Don't think he scored much at all. Obviously persisting with him has paid dividends. Amazing effort, one for ages.

Wow. Was expecting to be talking about Miraz’s great performance this match. Great effort from Mayers and probably the best debut since Lawrence Rowe.

I don’t see us lasting the day unless a few of our guys channel some Pujara blockathon and Pant’s escapism.
I posted this about 24 hours ago. Even though some LBWs were not reviewed, I still think that to bat on a 5th wicket against a barrage of spin bowlers and dominating like this is quite a feat.

I ended up watching the first two sessions of the day. Some of Bonnor’s defensive shots were well executed; he played every ball on its merit. There was the odd ball that rear up and got the Tigers a bit excited.

In the first session during commentary, the guy who was commentating alongside Bishop (not AAK and Shamim) brought up why Windies are so poor batsmen when they had so many legends in the past. It was one of the highlights of the day...and deep down I was hoping that both of Bonnie and Mayers somehow heard what was being discussed in the commentary box.

AAK was visibly more frustrated than all of the other commentators. I think Shamim was perfect. I don’t say that a lot about him, but he kept me glued to the screen. Somewhere along the way Anjum Chopra was inspired...she kept on mentioning Bonnor’s technique.
Bishop took a jab at Bangladesh for their lack of inclusiveness of the pacers. AAK piggybacked on it and was more bitter against Mominul for not bowling Mustafizur more overs.

I went to bed at the stroke of tea with us not losing a wicket in the day at that point...I expected to see a drawn match or a West Indian collapse at the hands of Miraz or even Mominul. Why didn’t Mominul bring himself on?

I woke up this morning after having a couple of hours of sleep. I opened my phone to the Cricbuzz app...and swiped past the Indian match and the Pakistan match...our match was third in the app...I just saw WI won by 3 wickets. I couldn’t believe it. Tears of joy started to well down my face. Water works.
I’m proud to be a West Indian. This is a bigger moment for our cricket than 2016 three championships.
These guys who made the sacrifice to go to Bangladesh while guys like Hetmyer and Bravo and company opted out. They are heroes in my eyes.

Rally. Rally round the West Indies. Now and forever! ?

BTW the West Indies players are either under paid or not getting paid at the moment I hear. Don't think there'll be too many guys queuing up for quarantine and work for no remuneration.

Great win by the Windies last night. I feel like such a dumb-ass for watching India vs England instead of this :-(

They were on half pay during the tour of England and New Zealand. I think that has been rectified for this tour.

So I'm still quite stunned, even as someone who backed Mayers strongly. What an innings.

Surely that is the end of Chase for a while? Mayers takes the all-rounder/5th bowler slot.

If Bonner keeps this up in the next test he will take Bravo or Brooks spot as well.

Dowrich is also in trouble. It's just so great to finally see what some other batsmen can do after 3 years of the same old players failing over and over again.
