Hussey has a better domestic one day record this season and he's more consistent.

I'll think you'll find Katich has the better domestic one-day record this season.

Don't get me wrong Ged, I don't like Katich but he has been in awesome form this season.

No Mister Wright, I think you'll find Hussey has the better record. Katich is averaging somewhere in the 50s whereas Hussey is 81. Katich might have 30 runs or so on Hussey but that's with a game in hand. Pretty much anyone will agree that is in favour of Hussey.

Katich - 7 innings, 1 N.O, 359 runs, Average 59.80
Hussey - 5 innings, 1 N.O, 326 runs, Average 81.50

That screams Hussey for mine.

Easily Gavaskar. Badani is more experienced and has form with that century in the warmup game.

Its debatable whom they will drop really. Gavaskar is a hard hitter who can bowl a bit.. a kind of utility player ideal for a batting line up like India. In quite a few other teams, you would chose Badani but I would go in with Gavaskar. He has been selected for his utility role itself. Gavaskar has a first class average of around 45.. not gr8 in India domestic cricket.. but he is kind of pretty useful for the one dayers .. would be dificult to hold on to his place one Kaif returns though.

I don't understand why Kaif demands a place in the Indian ODI side as he appears to. IMO he's not the best option for India.

Gavaskar should be dropped for the finals for sure. Badani just scored a 100 which won the match for the Indians, so there's no way he's going to be dropped. Badani can bowl too...I'm sure he's as good as Gavaskar in bowling.

I think Badani is as good as Kaif if not better. His batting is certainly better than Kaif's. Kaif hasn't been doing anything of late (even before his injury) and was actually dropped for Badani in the TVS cup final. Badani was impressive in that game too.

Badani is a pretty good fielder too. He's easily better than Gavaskar in this aspect and maybe just marginally below kaif.

Badani can bowl too...I'm sure he's as good as Gavaskar in bowling.

With Tendulkar, Ganguly and Sehwag there in addition to the four main options, is the bowling of Gavaskar or Badani really needed?

Gavaskar is a good fielder as well. He has been selected into the squad as a specialist. There is no doubt Badani is a better bat than Gavaskar and the first class averages are reflective of that.

But lower down the order, Gavaskar is a much better option as he is a better hitter and scorer. If they took Badani higher up the order, he would be a better option but not lower down IMO.

Regarding Kaif, I kno he has had some failures but he is a quality player and shouldnt be ignored once he is back after the injury.

Badani scored a 100 not in a LOI, so not so significant. Still I reckon Gavaskar over Badani for the reason I just stated above.

The Aussie selectors said Hussey is in for Bevan and Kaitch for Ponting. So when Ponting comes back, who is going to be dropped? Hussey or Katich?

I agree I have not been at all impressed with kaif the time's I have seen him.

He seem's to have one or two good shot's but overall he look's fairly avrage to me.

Because Katich performed in the tests, he's proven he can play at this level against India. The selectors have considered him the first drop replacement batsman for this series and he's done nothing to see that this should change. You really want to throw Hussey into the final series with what will be 1 match experience simply based on his domestic form? The guy deserves a chance based on his domestic form, at some point, no doubt, but his domestic form shouldn't justify his selection in front of a player who's already performed against India in the Australian side.

But then they took Katich over Clarke for the test series based on domestic form, after Clarke had performed extremely well in the TVS. Still, Katich deserves it.

Katich facing the new ball implies other things which are advantageous to his batting. For example, having the time to play himself in etc. It levels out in the end, but their respective records this season don't. :P
