Zoysa was sidelined after a bad tour of India

Weerartne, i think we need frontline line bowlers not bits and pieces all rounder. Also his batting is no better then Maharoof or Vaas. Until he can make the side batting 7, i can't see a spot for him. His batting still needs to improve a lot IMO.
The truth is Kulasekera /Ruchira Perera and even Dilhara will get carted around against Australia definitely and by SA to a lesser extent.

So it does not matter if we have any of these guys or Weeraratne , on the other hand IMO Weeraratne would be capable of getting a few more runs or even be used as a pinch hitter occasionally.

Here's the Cricinfo news item on Weeraratne. Admittedly the opposition was pretty average .

Weeraratne smashes fastest one-day fifty

Cricinfo staff

November 1, 2005

Former Sri Lankan allrounder Kaushalya Weeraratne has smashed the fastest fifty in limited-overs history, taking just 12 balls to reach the milestone, three balls fewer than the previous record held by Adam Hollioake.

Weeraratne, who finished with 66 off 18 balls, hammered seven sixes and two fours on his way to fifty, including five straight sixes off 40-year-old slow left-armer Ajith Ekanayake in an over which went for 34. He told reporters: "I am hoping to play this way for the rest of the season for my new club and perform well to remind the selectors that I am around."

Weeraratne was playing for Ragama against Kurunegala Youth at the Thurstan College Ground in Colombo. Weeraratne's efforts were, however, wasted as the match was rained off.

If you're looking for VB Series information such as the Squads, etc have a read of our section on the tournament. There's also a really good extensive preview article there.
Yeh, sorry. I was feeling ever so lazy that night.

I'd play Malinga in a heartbeat, regardless of the fact he has little control, he is the most viable bowling option we have in terms of fast bowling other than Vaas. He had a good tour Australian test tour, and under lights with his lively pace and action of his, I dare say he'll be a handful.

My IX would look like this (have no idea about the super-sub though):
1. Michael VANDORT
2. Upul THARANGA
3. Kumar SANGAKKARA
4. Mahela JAYAWARDENE
5. Tillekeratne DILSHAN
6. Marvan ATAPATTU
7. Russel ARNOLD
8. Farveez MAHAROOF
9. Chaminda VAAS
10. Lassith MALINGA
11. Muttiah MURALITHARAN

^ for real? damn...I don't know who I'd pick then. Fernando performed well last time he was here, he was our strike bowler, but he has dropped a lot of pace and has been consistantly dissapointing. And I barely know a thing about the other names that are being thrown around.

Sr Lanka are being embarrased in a tour match they are currently 6/62 against the Vics. Alan Wise has 5/25.

SL 8 / 102 after 28.2 overs. Sangakkara 19 not out . (Game reduced to 40 overs after rain interruption)

Whether they will be embarassed or if its a case of the weather and conditions helping the seamers , we shall soon know when Victoria bat . :)

I might go to a VB series game, then again maybe not because I just can't find anyone to go with and I'm sick of going places on my own.

SL 120 all out after 33.1 overs Sangakkara out for 33.

I suspect Victoria will win this easily.

Disappointing that Van Dort seems to have been Supersubbed at the start of the game without facing a ball. :@

If Sri Lanka batted first though, which they did, what would be the point of that?

Fernando has picked up both wickets, Kulasekera wicketless as is Maharoof.

Unless they get a couple of quick wickets now, Victorial should win this easily .

Not a good tour opener for SL , considering most of the batsman have failed to score many runs, including the stand in Captain Mahela .

I feel he must be pretty close to being dropped himself if he fails to score in the first VB.

3/53 after 13 overs . Kulasekera gets one . They need to grab a couple more quickly to pull this one.

I cannot find a logical reason for that decision !!
SL batsmen have been so badly out of form they must have been hoping to get some confidence ahead of Fridays games. Im scared to see the demolition job McGrath is gonna do on on them come Friday :

IF Sl gets thrashed in this away series as well then maybe those brainless bunsh of selectors will be thrown out :@ :@
