And I think for cricketers, a 13 is pretty darn good. Particularly as the lactic acid energy system and to a lesser extent the aerobic energy system is used primarily for the beep test, whereas in actual cricket, the creatine phosphate energy system is the main energy system before the lactic acid system.

darn! 10.3, I guess I have to loose some weight.

by the way, if a player don't get on with the program put in place by the cricket board, shouldn't he be punished or something. I mean, if a player of another country acted like Marc is doing he'll surely get some form of punishment.

Hell yeah. Obviously I`m nowhere near Buddhy`s high standard of fitness. I hear he peaked at 35.7.

Only level, I think 11 and above go past .10. The starting speed is 8km/h, and with each level, the speed goes up by 0.5km/h meaning at 10.0 the speed is 13km/h. Each level also lasts for 1 minute each, so the speed of the running determines how many intervals in a level. So, if someone wants to do the maths, tell us at what level do the intervals begin to go over .10

I did hear that Michael Bevan used to run the beep test out. Don't know if thats true though.

I fold. My thinking was that if we're running laps and the like, and that fitness training doesn't consist purely of the stop-start running that you do in cricket, those results are a little disappointing.

OP 4 kenny, you remember that.. :D

By the way -

I don't know about Bevan or any other past players, but Brad Hogg got the highest current beep test score, which was in the 15s

Haha yeah I know what you mean. Just that that long running uses the aerobic energy system, where oxygen is used as the main fuel to your muscles. Beep test just measures a different type of fitness.

OP 4, wow, well done Joe! :D:laugh:

Pickup XI beat the Goff XI by 8 wickets.

Ian Markus warmed up superbly for the tour of the West Indies with an innings of 107, continuing his form from the Champions Trophy. It was a game dominated by the Pickup XI, after the Goff XI were restricted to just 202/9 in 50 overs, despite getting off to a brisk start. Thamba Mamesh, Bryce Cunningham and Brendon Goff were the only players to reach the 30s, though the top six all got starts without carrying on. Prelude to his ton, Markus claimed 3 wickets, following Camps' 4, and the innings folded swiftly with a collapse of the lower order and tail.

Goff XI 202/9 (50)
Pickup XI 204/2 (35.2)

Comments from the coach to follow shortly.

Cricket, Lovely Cricket
Cloete showed how strong he is with a superb 50 before Halsey got him. Halsey's problem had been the loose deliveries he bowled. In the 5 overs he bowled, if there were 24 good balls (including a superb googly to Cloete), there were 6 loose balls as well resulting in his figures as 5 overs 30/1.

DeSilva picked up some fluency in his short unbeaten knock after his scratchy session at the nets yesterday.

Disappointed with the people right from 1-6 in Goff XI not making the most of starts. Camps bowling impressively didn't help their matters. We have the 5th bowler problem in one dayers and hopefully Camps can continue the effort and others can add up for us to over come this short coming I identified.

It was the match of Markus all the way though. Taking late order wickets first so that Goff XI had no chance to post a recovery. Then scoring a century not troubled by the bowling. The Goff XI bowlers needn't be too dejected. They gave in their best but had too little a score to defend and some wonderful batting to encounter in such a circumstance is difficult under most situations.

Next up today - Session by Sandy Gordon.

Also, hopefully some people can talk on some topics like the pride of playing for CW XI, the importance of accurcay in bowling or any thing they feel will help the team in tomorrow's evening talk session..

The Gordon Session

A few excerpts from the Sandy Gordon session -

Everyone has got a zone. It is a phase where actually you are performing as if it is automatic. It is partly mental, partly physical and partly emotional. It is a matter of analysing the conditions that create that state and replaying them. The problem is we don't analyse victories as much as we analyse failures. For example suppose in the last 10 matches versus Australia, team x wins 1 and loses 9 matches. The idea is to analyze on what the team did in that 1 match which helped it win and not rue the negatives of those 9 matches.

Negative ideas can creep in andI believe that the only counter is to switch-off at appropriate times. It is humanly impossible to maintain intense levels of concentration for more than 15 minutes. In long games like cricket, there should be intense focus at the time of delivery and after that the players should switch down else they will get fatigued.

To be a great player you need a strong work ethic and mental toughness. In my research, the name of Steve Waugh crops up and in CW XI, I get to hear Cloete's name in terms of mental toughness. And it is remarkable that both these players are modest. They are plenty of other examples as well.

Mental toughness gets tested on long tours. It is here that a large resource of 'energy reserves' from where a player can tap in has to be present. Physical fitness is vital but so is the mental side of it all.The team has undoubtedly improved. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching these guys getting into a frenzied level of intensity. But there is still a gap between ability and achievement.

It is here that players have to ask questions to themselves - what can I change in my game to be a better player, contribute to the team in a better manner. More often than not the answers come when the questions are asked.

If the CW team can stay positive and maintain intensity, it can be sure of achieving great success down the road.
