What, he's bowling left arm spin is he?

Counts for nowt, you're right. Expecting Phil Hughes to automatically ton up massive next tour of England. His record there will mean nothing.

I'll say it real slow.. Just for you..

Four years later or not, he's innocuous when it doesn't swing. He bowled here before when it didn't swing. He was innocuous in 09 when it didn't swing. If it swings he is a good bowler. If it doesn't, he isn't. It usually doesn't here, as he found out four years ago.
Exactly, you're missing the point..its not like Anderson lands in Perth and forgets how to bowl once he gets through border control. Its just hes still not great in unhelpful conditions TODAY not that he couldn't bowl in them 4 years ago with a crocked back, little experience and as a generally inferior bowlers than he is now.

Phil Hughes tore up in County Cricket, his problem wasn't England... it was a well directed short ball.

TBH if I was England I would be less concerned about Anderson's record here last time than his record in the last half of 09. I have no idea why he was so horrible at Headingley, but he was - Ponting and Clarke took him to the cleaners.
He's improved since then mate...bowled well in South Africa - the pace bowler's graveyard

(y). Theres a lot to be said about Anderson's weaknesses, i just don't feel the 06/07 Ashes is one.. for reasons ive given.

Arguing with teenagers is something I try to avoid, to retain my sanity and affable nature. Though I do think Anderson will bowl better this tour.

Jimmy Anderson has pulled out due to unhelpful conditions.

I don't think Burgey's saying that Anderson loses it in Australia - rather his bowling's relatively unsuited here. Hughes' problem iirc was down to the short ball, so only very good quicks would threaten him.

TBF, I think on that debate, they are both making relevant points.

Jimmy's record in Australia stinks and it does matter, just like Ponting's in India did whenever he went there. It doesn't mean he will go badly this time but it does mean he has failure associated with him and will have to work hard to undo that stigma.

And while what Burgey says about him being less effective in unfriendly conditions is true, Marcuss is 100% on the money that he's a different bowler now than he was four years ago. He still needs to do more when the ball is doing less, but he isn't a liability in unfriendly conditions. That fact alone will keep him from averaging 80.

I'll be happy with him averaging around 30 in this series, I reckon if he does, the urn's in the bag as it will likely mean he's had a great game somewhere along the line. If Jimmy has a great game, we win, that's pretty much how it works.

Ando shouldn't average ~ 80 this time, purely because he's a better bowler and we're more **** this time, but I wouldn't be surprised if he averages 40+, which is poor imho.

Hate how the commentators try to pick Hughes's technique to bits, and give him grief. I mean, the guy averages 50+ in Test cricket. It took an absolutely red-hot Flintoff to expose him, and that was only for one or two Tests.
Couldn't agree more, cricketers from the past just don't respect individuality of a player, just because being a copy book batsman is considered to be the technically correct way to play, it doesn't mean its likely to work for everyone.
Hughes has developed his own technique and it works relatively well for him so why just go on and on about it!!
Anyways White tonned up despite all the criticism regarding his technique, well North better watch out now another failure and White might be playing instead of him in the2nd test.

Nelson strikes for White, good knock from him, held the innings together.
Three for Monty, he's bowled pretty well considering the lack of turn. Just 1 wicket to go.
