Can't help but think Giles is merely being rested for this game, and that he'll play in Brisbane.
Tbh Panesar hasnt exactly bowled well enough to warrant selection over him anyways. I watched the highlights of the opening game and he was unwilling to toss the ball up and use flight whatsoever. In fact Giles really gave him a lesson on how to bowl in that game. From reports it doesnt look like hes bowled much better in the other 2 warm ups either, and the only wicket he took in the game against SA was apparently a rank long hop. Hopefully he sorts it out and learns that he needs to flight the ball more by the time he gets to Brisbane.

Is Cook capable of scoring good looking runs? The few times I've seen him bat or read about his innings he always gives a few chances at the start of his innings and often doesn't look comfortable. I know Pietersen does the same thing but it's different in a sense because with the way KP plays he looks to dominate and take risks and will give the odd chance. From what I can gather it's not like that with Cook, he just doesn't look comfortable.
Yea even while he scored those centuries in India and against SL he looked extremely uncomfortable against the spin, and it certainly surprised me that he ended up batting that long. His game seems to revolve around his temperament, but as long as hes scoring runs im not too bothered if it were ugly runs. Nasser Hussain made a career out of it.

Not very often you get what you want out of a day's cricket - if I could have picked two batsmen to score runs it would have been Bell and Collingwood -all our top six have at least a 50 on tour now. PS - Cullen was so crap for Somerset last summer that when he left to play for Aus A they told him not to come back! if that's the third best spinner in Australia they'd better keep Warne and MacGill fit...

I have to say the spin options behind Warne and Macgill are atrocious. Does Australia have any left arm orthodox spin bowlers in domestic cricket? Certainly there cant have been too many Australian SLA bowlers in their entire history.

As mentioned, Heal is going okay for WA this season. He's their leading wicket taker, in fact.

Cullen Bailey's gone okay for Australia A and so on. Certainly a better prospect than any leg-spinner Australia has found since MacGill. Bit early to write him off yet, I'd say.

Im glad to see that England will have Collingwood bat ahead of Pietersen in the first test. Not often they get things right, but thats the right order IMO.

Gotta say that this is one of the better preparations from a touring side here in Australia, leading into the 1st Test match. Granted, what's happened with Trescothick and Harmison has not been great for England however, that aside, of the starting XI for the 'Gabba, most have scored a 50 or taken some top-order wickets so far on tour. They've come up against some quality opponents too.

Flintoff just gone after batting very patiently. Interesting to see that Tait was hit out of the attack by Mahmood of all people.

England's tail getting some batting practice. You would think they'd only bat until lunch, and give their bowlers a good 60 overs to prepare for the first test.

Panesars wickets dont really inspire too much confidence really. His wicket in the first inning was apparently a rank long hop and the one in this inning doesnt seem too much better:
Over 26.3: Panesar to Elliott, OUT! Wow!! Dances down the track, then slaughters Panesar through mid-on, however, Anderson jumps up and pulls in a spectacular one-handed catch.

4:31PM: Players are shaking hands, with the captains agreeing to end the game an hour early, with the match finishing in a draw.

SA ended up at 2/164
4 runs behind England

WD SA batsmen for keeping Englands bowlers at bay and not giving em confidence
