But it's a split second instinctive decision. It just diminishes the effectiveness of all the tools at the third umpires disposal.

By your logic, even in stumping, runout calls, the third umpire shouldn't give the benefit of doubt to the batsman.

If the umpire makes a box sign, then obviously there is no bias because he hasn't made a decision. So no, that is not the same by my logic.
