They still have rest days, the players just take them at random during the match, usually when batting.

When I played, we didn't go off willy nilly after a stint of bowling to have our hair permed and backsides oiled, that was what rest days were for.

You see the problem is bowlers, especially English bowlers lately, is they’re not getting enough rest in matches. They need some proper rest, they do. But what does the batter do? He goes and gets out he does. Where does that leave the bowler? Have a proper rest day, where the bowler can put his feet up and such, and you won’t have us losing the ashes like we are doing, and doing quite well mind you.
