You'd think so but - unfortunately - I've seen enough of these events to suspect that it usually takes a full day to recover mentally. It's rare that the team that has been skittled in the first innings is able to put up any semblance of a fight on the same day, they're probably still a bit in shock.Yeah but my worry is it should not continue in this session. That short spell before tea was understandable. They have had time to calm down and work on their plans.
In Edgbaston and Trent Bridge in 2015, for example, the conditions were still bowler-friendly enough and the Aus bowlers technically skilled enough that a counter-skittling was still technically possible and that would have kept the game alive. But psychologically the team that's been bowled out for ****-all just usually can't do it until Day 2 or 3. The only counterexample I can think of is 47ao.
