He's definitely having a second wind in terms of form though. I don't think anyone would be that surprised if he came away with this tournament and the Australian.

Yeah he's having a better year, no doubt. Still lost to Gulbis and Cilic at Grand Slams though. Bloke can't back up after 5 sets.

Such a disappointing tournament so far. Stan and Nishi better lift to at least make the last two days good to watch.

The only male tennis player to come out of this tournament well so far is Grigor, fine decision making IMHO.

Seriously though it's been junk, been a poor ATP year, mind you there have been plenty good before. Yet was a spectacularly poor time just before the tournament for Matthew Syed to go on about a golden age in the Times, and how the women are stealing money from poor destitute Roger Federer (hasn't won a slam in years remains highest paid throughout), been much better fun in the WTA, including the YEC. His comments about him guessing no-one would know the names of the four slam champions in the women (Li Na. Sharapova, Kvitova and Williams), rather then the stellar names of the men, umm Cilic and Stan, marked it out as trollbait, but still just awful stuff.

No, Matthew Syed did in defence of Fed, I'd give a link but paywall. Better matches today, it has to be said, but it still hasn't felt that players are playing well at the same time. The Kei-Nole match kind of illustrated that, two walkover sets, but in between a great performance from Nishkori.

Stanimal ffs. Hold your nerves.

Probably a better result for the final though. Novak would have romped Stan.

Federer properly bottled it. Seriously though, this backs up the point he's not physically good enough to be a favourite for grand slam's these days. Playing a worldie final after a gruelling Semi and Quarter is the meat and drink for Novak, Rafa, etc.

The final this tournament deserved.

Davis Cup in strife too now, unless he can properly recover.

He's screwed Stanimal good here. Beat him in the semi after he had match points costing him hundreds of thousands of dollars, and now may have cost him Davis Cup too

Didn't he make three grand slam finals this year?
