Stosur starting to play like an Australian now instead of the Queenslander effort of the first set.

Edit: reverts to being a Qlder..

So ****ing nervous. She's nowhere the tennis she played in the fourth, quarters and semis.

EDIT: Calling this 6-4, 6-4.

Spoke too soon.

Schiavone is pretty tough. Opposite to the Italian football team, must be said.
Opposite of our football team it must be said, who just went down 1-3 to the Yanks.

FFS Stosur, relax.

You act like your surprised she's choking? I knew she would choke when she was favourite.

As bizarre as this sounds Stosur would have been much better off playing Dementieva rather than Schiavone. Australians always choke when they're favourite, especially in solo sports and especially women.

Schiavone is not a robotic, mindless Eastern Europe ball hitting machine that breaks down at the first hint of pressure. Schiavone's personality was never going to going to be something like a Jankovic. And if she made few unforced errors Stosur was always going to stumble.

Don't get me wrong, Stosur did a great job to get to the final. But she had the luxury of being the underdog with nothing to lose in her matches against Henin, S. Williams and Jankovic.

Why do Australians stuggle when they're favourite and much prefer to be the plucky underdog? I dont know. You could make a broad generalisation about tall poppy syndrome and how being confident and strong is frowned upon etc. And while that has an element of truth its hardly the definitive answer.
