Almagro paying $5.50 vs. Monfils before the start of play.

Surely the bookies are overrating Monfils here? He's a good player, and vastly improved, but surely he's not a $1.14 favourite vs. Almagro.

Mind you I've been wrong many times in this thread (Wozniacki, Wawrinka etc) so feel free to ignore me.

Almagro is appalling on anything that's not clay though. Only got this far because he was seeded thanks to his clay performances. (Wimbledon has it right imo, should have seeds based on past court performance.)

Edit: Set and break up already...

Women's tennis pisses me off so much. It's only a matter of time before this thread is polluted with a horrendous rant, so I apologise in advance.

Yeah true.

Monfils is playing so well, has hit the most amazing shots and can chase down ANYTHING! So cool to watch. Won Australian fans over in 2007 against Baghdatis here, and they clearly still love him.

Woah he just hit another! Almagro is shrugging his shoulders andlooking at the skies asking "WTF?"

Gotta love Monfils.

Was watching this match whilst I was having lunch in the shopping centre today, and I must say watching Monfils play is awesome. Just looks like he's having a good time out there, not trying etc.

Love how much swing/kick he gets on his serves down the centre.

Bad luck for those who backed Stepanek, Verdasco showing why hes such a quality player.

She should be a cracking night of tennis.

Cheering for Nadal to win the big prize next Sunday.

Happily, most of the male big guns looking like making it through deep into the 2nd week, which is unusual for the Australian Open which has really served up so no-names in the latter stages of the tournament of recent years (and some dud finals to go along with that).

Was rather suprised to see that Rusedski plans comeback on the BBC's site. It isn't as if he went out at the top when he called it quits. Mind you, he's still probably better than Bogdanovic, so Master Bates's decision not to use him for the Davis Cup is a bit odd.

Haha, actually thought Murray was pretty terrible in that first set, far too passive and still making far too many stupid errors.
..in my defence I did just see the last 3 games of the set...Murray obviously getting into the swing of the game then..and now..... going 5 games up in the second set...

Yeah he was a ot better the second set...got rid of the unforced errors for one and made a few more shots. That's the level he needs to be at when he plays Verdasco

Has played some really nice points though, the fact that she had more winners than Dementieva in the first set is pretty impressive.
