Davydenko was murdered by Blake.

Blake vs. Federer final. Don't think Blake has the game to beat him, but Roger is not playing as good hard court tennis as he was 2 years ago. That doesn't mean he's not going to win the US Open or anything like that. All it means is he looks more human now than back then. Not as safe a bet to throw your house on as he used to be.

Bump!

Hewitt took Federer to three sets in Cincinnati today - Feds also gave up a set to Almagro, of all people. What with losing to Đoković last week, are there signs of an era ending?

Young gun Querrey made the quarters, was a set up v James Blake, somehow squandered it. Disappointing. Expect Davydenko to smash Blake to smithereens tho.

And IMO Murray should just break off his season and get his injury sorted. OK, he'll lose a flipping lot of rating points, but on the bright side if he draws a seed in the early rounds of an early-season Grand Slam or a Masters tournament, he'll race up the rankings again.
Federer is certainly not as dominant as he used to be. However, Hewitt has shown some improvement over the last few months.

just heard an excerpt from serena's post match press conference...she starts out by saying that she just cannot explain the loss and then agreed in a small voice that henin played better and then ruins that in typical serena style by saying henin hit a lot of lucky shots while she made a lot of errors...when will this woman understand the meaning of grace, sportsmanship, respecting an opponent?8-)

Lol, I was actually going to bump this thread up to try and get in before you did Anil, because I knew you would. ;)

No excuse really. Serena was a break down in the first, managed to break back and then have set point, and Henin hit one of the best second serves you can make on a clutch point, and then dominated the tie-break.

The second set was an embarassment from Serena. Henin in with a real shout to take the US Open if she plays like that. At this moment in time, she is definitely the better tennis player.

Ferrer really putting the ice on Rafa here. 2 sets to 1 up, and considering Nadal's knee is clearly not 100%, and hasn't been all tournament, I have a feeling Nadal is going out here.

Hopefully the great man proves me wrong.

good call:) , but it's not cut and dried for henin yet, if venus dusts jankovic and plays the way she has been playing so far, it's going to be a big hurdle...although i get the feeling she has overcome a psychological barrier now(at least against serena, that might percolate through to an encounter with venus as well) and can play more freely against the sisters...

Henin ftw, she'll be hard pressed to beat Venus in the form she's in atm, but if anyone can do it, it's Henin. (If Venus makes it past Jankovic that is)

she did, in a tight 3 setter...in other news, roddick gets "federered" again...as well as he fought for 2 1/2 sets, the result was never in doubt...

Felt so sorry for Roddick, he pulled out some awesome shots, but it must get so effing frustrating seeing Federer return them with an even better one. Might nearly be time for Andy to try a voodoo doll or something, i think thats about 16 wins in a row Roger has had over him.

Think it was 13-1 Federer going into the match.

I was saying to Simon a few days ago, the difference between Roddick taking on Federer compared to Djokovic and Nadal (other than the obvious game style differences) is mentally, I am 100% sure Roddick goes in thinking he needs Federer to not play well for him to have any chance, even if he plays to his absolute best.

I do not believe Djokovic and especially Nadal think that when they take on Federer, be it on any surface. That's the difference. I was pretty sure Federer would win in 3 vs. Roddick, even though Federer has lost a few sets to randoms this tournament. When Federer takes on Roddick, he lifts, and Roddick doesn't think he has a chance unless something goes wrong for Roger.

If he doesn't change that way of thinking, that record could blow out to 20-1 if not more.

^^I thought there was more? In any case, it must be frustrating for Roddick that his only win, was their very first meeting iirc.

he was trying to pump himself up, talk, even shout at himself throughout...in stark contrast was federer's calm....roddick clearly showed his desperation and federer, the serene calm when you know you really own someone on the tennis court...:)

Ferrer into the semis. Always been a solid player. If Djokovic gets past Moya as he should, that'll be a good match.
