To be fair to Simon Jones, he's missed 1 game through injury in the last 3 series.
Yes but he has still not recovered from his injury and has only fifty percent of chance of making it to Pak tour, the point is that his fitness record is not that great, like that of Akhtar and others.

Here i'm not trying to degrade Jones in any way, Jones is a champion player and will hopefully recover soon and will come out with his best performance in Pakistan. The only reason i mentioned his injury was to point out that there are a dozen cricketer in Test cricket whose fitness record is poorer than that of Inzamam.

His so-called poor fitness record is a result of that one horrific injury though.
Shouldn't that be two?? or is the present injury a recurrence of the earlier one???

I think the argument was that his reputation for a poor fitness record to this point is a result of the one injury. If he misses the Pakistan tour (very likely, but not happened yet) then this will change.

How is 2 players out of 13 in the Test squad for England 'in keeping with performance'? And I'll be surprised if Harmison actually plays.

The best side (excluding Australia) by miles, has just beaten Australia and the likes of India and Pakistan have the same number of players as England in the Test squad. England should have had a minimum of 3 players in the Test squad.
Considering the selections were made in the midst of the Ashes series IIRC prior to the last 3 tests , I will let the selectors have the benefit of the doubt on this.

But my comments were made considering the Test and ODi sides combined and KP in the ODI side makes 3 English players in total. But I have to agree with you considering the Ashes result, England should have at least Strauss +/- Jones (Simon) -[ bar his injury ] in either of these teams .

Vettori and Boucher are the most mysterious selections, IMO . Fleming or Marshall (Hamish) should have been the NZ player to be picked if anything and Kumble should have got in to the Test side at least !

What about Duncan as coach?
In consideration of the recent Ashes series, I would have definitely picked him (Duncan) first and then Whatmore over Wright (who seems to show a total lack of interest in achieving anything for the World XI , IMO ).

Vettori will go well against AUS. Everyone keeps wondering why he got picked which is fair enough but I bet he goes really well.

The ODIs are played at the Telstra Dome and are day/nighters.

Start time: 2:15 AEST (04:15 GMT)

The warm up match for the World XI is against Victoria on Sunday. It starts at 10:00 am. local time. 00.00 GMT.

Vic. team: 1 Cameron White (capt), 2 Adam Crosthwaite, 3 Gerard Denton, 4 Shane Harwood, 5 Brad Hodge, 6 David Hussey, 7 Nick Jewell, 8 Michael Klinger, 9 Michael Lewis, 10 Jonathan Moss, 11 Rob Quiney, 12 Tim Welsford
This could be an extremely painful game for Victoria.

I'll be there to witness the pain first hand :D

Any other Victorians going?
Hopefully I might be able to make it for the last hour or so (assuming it lasts that long).

Assuming it lasts that long??

Sure, the World XI will take a while to gell but there's a bit of talent there so don't expect The Bushrangers to have it all their own way.

I think the World XI will give them a good workout.

Fitter allrounder  the terms you use are absolutely hilarious.

Listen kid, Inzi has been fit enough to have played most of the matches played by Pakistan this year. The same can't be said about Akhtar,Tendulkar, Jones and Bond.Unless Tendulkar resumes his test cricket he simply cannot be declared as a fitter player than any current active playing cricketer. This is very simple to understand, try to get this between your two ears!

What have that to do with ongoing discussion? 8-)

and i have a question for you, why isn't Sachin name's included for the ICC test and OD award category?? Surely a fitter allrounder (as you like to call him :p ) deserves a mention, doesn't he?
I think what he meant was that Tendulkar's fitness, when he is fully fit, is better than Inzy's, in the sense that Sachin is generally in the better shape when it comes to having to run around in the field or even while batting.

LOL! Yep I fully expect White to rip right through the ROW XI. Hell Lara will be his bunny, out first ball. :-O  :p

What are the odds ROW break 400 against Victoria? Especially with it being a warm-up game - KP, Fred, Afridi, Lara et al will all just go out all guns blazing - it's not like there's anything at stake.

I hope Martyn bats so well in the ODI's that the selectors have to pic him for the super test or else i would be a bit uncomfortable with Australia picking Watson as the all-rounder since the middle-order will look seriously iffy vs R.O.W.

Thanks Honestbrani,,,I didnt even want to comment to this guy if he could not understand thet i said fitter allround as in he is a fitter player all round ,not allrounder,,,oh god this guy has done nothing but pump up fat inzimans tyres but then claims he does not have him as a favorite,,,but i shouldnt expect much from someone who writes that Simon Jones is a champion,a good player yes a champion???come on if he is a champion that plum pudding standing in first slip for pakistan (inzi) is the greatest player ever ....but then again maybe you think that is correct to hahahahahahaha
