Tendulkar's been ruled out. That's a few billion off the revenue. Presumably Marcus must be a big candidate to replace Gibbs (in both squads).
Hopefully that now guarantees a Test middle order of Dravid, Lara, Kallis and Flintoff (numbers 3-6, respectively). My fear was that Kallis would have been squeezed out, which would have been a travesty, considering his stellar form in the past two years.

I had the exact same fear as well, as I think I posted when the squads were initially selected.

Not that good a year, and certainly not anywhere near enough to make him suitable as a replacement for Tendulkar.

They've already cut the squad down to the 14, why start adding players back in now?
I think the point was that with Tendulkar in the aim might have been to play Flintoff at 7 making the batting ability of the keeper fairly redundant. If the order were to be rijigged with Flintoff at 6, the batting would be looking decidedly dodgy with Boucher at 7.

As for the person who expressed "the fear" that Kallis might be squeezed out. They obviously haven't spent much time watching him bat over the last year!

The things the Australian selectors do

buggers just when i thought that the decision to drop Bevan from the ODI sqaud last year was the worst decision i have seen the aussie selectors make(mind you it hasn't hurt australia) they now come up with Martyo :@ , geez mayn how could they axe him from the test side but still keep him in the ODI side, it bemuzing but in a strange way i think i see where the selectors are going.

- Martyn played well in the ODI over here so he's retained, but he failed in the test but stupdily they forgot about all his top class performaces before and he dropped. ignorance mayn.

- the only other selection that bothers me is Hodge not being in the ODI sqaud i think he would make a far better option that Katich in ODI's.Even though i agree with Dizzy & Kasper being axed presently i hope Dizzy can find some form in state cricket & force his way back into the international set-up

My reshuffled teams for the super-test & ODI & 1st test vs WI:

Test:

langer
Hayden
Ponting
Hodge - i am not confortable with Katich at 4, i say give Hodge a chance
Clarke
Watson
Gilchrist
Warne
Lee
McGrath
Tait or MacGill - this is related to the super test

ODI:

Gilchrist
Clarke
Ponting
Martyn
Symonds
Hussey
Watson
Hopes
Hogg
Lee
McGrath
Tait - But in the future i hope Dizzy can be here

IMO If they were going to play Hodge they wouldn't have dropped Martyn (Martyn would have been 12th man and Hodge left out of the squad). Both Katich and Watson will play.

I think the reason they've maintained Martyn in the ODIs is so that they can avoid a big debate about "the end of his career". Once he fails in those then they can drop him for good, but there won't be much complaint. However, they've also just about left the door open for him to find a way back in should it all go pearshaped.

I think Inzi is to be brought in for SRT, which IMO should've been what happened in the first place. On form over the past couple of years, to leave Inzy out was madness.

Have you heard confirmation of that? As much as Inzy deserves to be there, I'd love to see Vaughan playing, for the pure comedy factor of the Aussies oce again having to face the Pommie captain who just beat them.

Isn't Inzy throwing a major wobbly over the fact that he wasn't selected in the first place (justifiably so, IMO)?

I think he said something along the lines of the fact that he wasn't going to be 12th man for anyone - unless that involved getting 12 dinners.

yeah he basically said he wasn't going to the captains meeting or the awards and he hadn't decided whether to accept if they asked him to replace Tendulkar, i can't see it tbh, whoever replaces SRT isn't going to play IMO
