Jadeja finally departs for a fighting, heroic 20 as he finds himself running out of partners. What a man! What a legend! :notworthy

84/9 reminds me of something Mohammad Yousuf had said about Umar Akmal after the Australia series earlier this year. He said Akmal was talented but playing T20 from such an early stage of his career kind of ruined hi s temperament and patience.

I cannot help but feel the same way about the Indian batsmen today. When too much T20 is being played at the first class level, the result is 84/9.

The test series was saved by Tendulkar, Laxman and Sehwag. Two of them are not playing and Sehwag can be allowed one failure. But this sort of surrender by the younger Indian batsmen is unacceptable.

Great performance from New Zealand though. I did not expect them to get 288 but it was a terrific effort.

we did the same to srilanka in ASIA cup final.....totally toss dependent match...
But we won by 200 runs, without our captain and vice-captain, and coming out of a NZ winter. I think we deserve a little bit of credit for that, and that was what I was saying.

I think I have a right to be proud of my team tonight.

This win was not based on the toss. IT was based on missed chances by India when bowling, and NZ taking the initiative from there. They then bowled well and India didn't put up a fight.

Well done Black Caps. Gave our spoiled ****s a mighty ass whooping.

My patience is wearing thin as far as Jadeja is concerned.

Can I ask why there is so much hatred towards Jadeja, he seems to have a fairly decent record.

No point blaming the toss. I havent seen the match so dont know whether it was exceptional bowling or just plain piss poor batting.

Even if New Zealand did bowl exceptionally well, India should still have been able to score at least 200 runs

Yeah we got stomped but there was some adjusting to do and we never adjust quickly.

NZ were clinical so full marks.

Great win!

A great win by the Black Caps, and a great start to the series.

At the end of the day the difference between the sides was the partnership between Styris and Taylor (190 runs and NZ won by 200 runs). Apart from those two, all the other batsmen struggled on that pitch. Definitely a pitch that required the batsmen to take their time and play themselves in.

From cricinfo ball-by-ball commentary:

Swapnil: "So whats the news - has Taylor enforced the follow-on? There's still 18 overs to be played for stumps right?"
