SA A runs in the winter from an opener will put pressure on Dean at the beginning of our home summer if things don't go well in India and the start v England.

Hashim Amla has just gone past Graeme Smith (9253) to be South Africa's 2nd leading run scorer in test cricket.

Wow I didn't know Rudi Second was brought to PE to act as 12th man because of QdKs injury.

Some of those shots, pisses me off.... be good or be bad, don't be bad and look classy. That makes choices difficult.

Indicator of pecking order?

Yeah he performed for SA A so they won't throw that away. Selectors have been fair like that for a long time.

It's a little rough on Klaasen as he didn't get the chance to play for SA A because he was in the squad for the senior side as the backup keeper, but not performing in ODIs may have counted against him.

Also considering he was in the test squads before but I'm glad they also willing to realise opportunities are opportunities and Klaasen didn't take his.

The only thing is Klaasen probably scores at a rate similar to QdK. But he reallys been poor this summer.

Only thig now is, what do they do with Qeshile and Verreynne.

High time Steyn got dropped from the team. Has the highest bowling average by far out of their whole core set of pace bowlers Steyn, Philander, Rabada, Olivier, Mulder and Ngidi.

It makes about as much sense as anything else I've heard recently.

At this point, SA would be well served if their curators dished out some actual roads TBH. Just don't get the feeling their batsmen can pile up 400-450+ even on benign surfaces, batting long periods is not easy when you just don't get the opportunity.

Bavuma must be done and dusted as well.
Average down to 33.

May have been improved average in recent games but he missed out on home to India on the toughest pitches of all we've had at home against the best seam attack we can play against . No 100s in that time and if any other batsman scored 1 100 in 36 tests his neck would be on the block. We can look it, in more detail if we want.

But if we are to be a proper batting unit again then I don't think Bavuma should be a part of it. But he is only 1 part of the problem.

I definitely don't think he should ever bat four in Test cricket. I can only see a place for him as a kind of specialist collapse-rescuer batting at six on juicy pitches. If five bowlers are selected (or four bowlers and Mulder) then Bavuma can't be part of the top five, IMO.
