Burns has his weaknesses but at least he looks like a test player

How anyone thought that Finch would be one is beyond me

Yep. Head and Burns aren't perfect but I think they'll be at least adequate Test batsmen if they have extended careers, something which I can't say about a couple of other bats we've tried.

Hmm, this could get ugly today, that drop off Burns could prove really costly. Pitch looks super flat, so much time on the short ball, fast outfield, real shame Lakmal wasn't able to get up and keep a lid on things.

Having said that Fernando and Rajitha look like they have some of the tools to not disgrace themselves in SA, either would potentially be ok as a 3rd seamer with Lakmal leading the pack and hopefully Chameera back in the side.

As for Chamika, hope he makes some runs - bowls some rippers but cannot maintain pressure at all it seems

Burns
Warner
Patterson
Smith
Head
Pucovksi

for the Ashes

Maxwell, Handscomb, Renshaw as reserves
Not bad, as the line up only contains one Victorian, which is always a positive if Australia wants to win. Would be better if there was none though. As a practicality though, they'll take Harris. The world needs more blokes who look good getting down on one knee to drive as they spoon one to point.

Head has done very well since he came into the side tbh. Better than I thought he would. He's been frustrating at times and obviously has things to work on, but there's enough there to suggest he could enf up a very decent test player.

Terrific festive atmosphere there today. I look forward to this yea'rs Boxing Day test at the same venue.

wow, the way Burns can just stay legside of the ball and open up the offside against Perera shows just how little dilruwan is getting out of the pitch, he's not varying his flight or getting any loop either

Good thing for Sri Lanka is that they will be bowling only the once in this game. Burns to score more runs this innings than he will in the Ashes.

Vishwa is reminding me of Welegadara at Hobart last time round. Bowling at least one really bad long hop an over, especially at the start. At least he's getting it down above 130 km/h.

I've grudgingly come to accept this too. Would still prefer Maxwell get a proper opportunity but Head has shown that he's not completely useless.
