I think SL would have been better off with Sandakan and playing two spinners, though the pitch has more grass than normal (which means I think it should be very good for batting on day 2-3). The only thing that will save this bowling attack will be the Australian batsmen's tendency to give away their wickets.

Also it is a cool cloudy morning, so not the worst to bowl on.
Thing is none of the batsmen can contribute any medium pace (Dimuth's dibbly dobbles don't count) but DdS can bowl some offspin, so it probably made sense to play the 3 seamers, this team balance also allows for quite a deep batting line-up, Dilruwan will come in down at 9 I guess.

I'm tempted to say that runs against this attack really shouldn't count. But then nobody is scoring runs against any attack. Can you imagine what Hayden, Langer, Ponting, Martyn and Clarke would have done to these poor bowlers?

Runs coming now, very little swing, seam or spin, and discipline. Imagine if Harris and Khawaja hadn't thrown away their wickets.

Head and Burns are getting boundaries in every over here.

Both deserve a spot more than Handscomb though

But on a more serious note, Dilruwan being profligate could really hurt SL here

Burns' forward defence with the angled bat out to point is really the sort of technique we should be looking to take to England this year.

I hate when bowlers gather the ball in their follow through and then throw it to the keeper. Just another thing slowing down the over rate.
